Question:

i will buy a dell laptop and found 40 GG should be enough to me.
and i read some thread comparing with 40 GG and 60 GG speed.
some said speed of 40 gg is 4200rpm and some said 5400 rpm.
which one is corrected ?
how about speed of 60 GG.
Any information would be appreciated.

Re: Hard Disk speed?
HDD come in various different speeds, it has nothing to do with their size. If it's not listed, that almost always means 4200 RPM, which is fairly standard. If you can afford an upgrade to a 5400 RPM drive, after you have 512MB RAM, it's a worthwhile investment.

Re: Hard Disk speed?
I think Dell has upgraded all of the HDD to the 5400...they just haven't updated their website. I've been trying to verify that, but no luck so far.
Depending on what system you get, the 60gig might be a 7200, but it will state that in the choice selection.

Re: Hard Disk speed?
The standard Dell hard drives (the non-7200RPM ones) have been updated to 5400RPM, at least for the I9300.

Re: Hard Disk speed?
I just got my 700m last week, and it came with a 5400 rpm drive (a Fujitsu MHT2080AH). Dell.ca still says 4200 rpm for all the options.
SouthernGirl, thanks for posting the info in prior threads. You know better than two Dell reps I spoke with, who both looked at the web site and insisted I could not get a 700m with other than the 4200 rpm drives!
OT: My first post, greetings everyone and thanks for all the great posts. I'm a complete newbie to laptops (excuse me, 'notebooks') but have already learned a lot from here.
Regards,
Simon
