Asus z70va still exhibit red ghosting issues?

Question:
Asus z70va still exhibit red ghosting issues?
I've been reading on that screen issue thread but haven't seen or heard of any updates/fixes to it. I did read that someone said it was solved but I haven't found anyone else report it being fixed, so I'm not sure if that's true.
I plan on getting one to replace my old laptop (gotta have the x700) but the screen issue is something that's holding me back - as I really need BT built-in.
Also do any of you know if the DVD-burner optical drive is region free? Or if there are any firmwares out there to make it region free? I read on the other thread and it seems there isn't a firmware for the drive.

I'm sure if you buy from a reputable dealer, they wont send you a "bad" one. As for the DVDRW drive, I'm pretty sure you cant put whatever you want inside it. I've got some DVD's from Thailand and they seem to work. My friend got me 1 movie from the Philippines also. Don't know if that helps. ;)

I read on the other thread and it seems there isn't a firmware for the drive. There are various programs that allow you to play discs of any region. Usually the DVD program that is on your computer will adjust the region and allow you to play the DVD, such as the included DVD viewing program on ASUS notebooks called ASUS DVD AKA PowerDVD. If this is still a problem playing DVD's with other region codes then you would have to invest in a region changer program. The one that I know of that does this is called DVD Region that includes CSS free. If you go to sites like www.majorgeeks.com, they supply freeware version and shareware versions that you might have to pay a little fee for.

yea PowerDVD and MediaPlayer Classic lets me change regions on my current laptop but they only give me 4 changes before it becomes permanent.... sooo.... I did a good firmware 'upgrade' on the drive and its now region free.
madmike: if you can play dvds from thailand and phillipines.. I think that's a good sign =D Thanks!

I noticed the red after when going from black screen to something lite esp white. Its very noticable i thought it was just the screen itself since it hasa 25ms response. Should this not be happening? I bought the laptop from ISTNC.

I also have a slight red ghosting issue on my z70va. However, it is completely unnoticeable unless I'm on a black background, or when the screen is black. That's all I have to say...

they are still out there and shipping with ghosting. Its a hit or miss some have some dont. Originally i stated that we will ship some with very mild ghosting but after last friday we pulled all the screens with any sign of ghosting. Today we shipped the last good screen we had. Asus is shipping about 2 dozen screens back to us next week so i ll hope and pray they are all good. This work is exausting checking every single screen then removing the screens then putting them back again then checking them again then removing the test components then assembling them again.

Hey Eddie,
i'm not too sure about the inner workings towards creating/building up a barebones laptop, but isn't it possible to just lay the screen flat on a table, connected to the laptop, and look for any ghosting from there on? Or does everything have to be put in place first?
I've been building computers for quite some time and I pretty much leave things hanging (literally) until everything's good to go. Not the same for laptops eh?
