Question:
intel extreme graphics
Hi.
Sorry if this is a much repeated question. I can't find it in the archives.
I'm considering buying the Aspire 2012, but am concerned with the graphics. I don't need to play any games on it, but would occasionally like to watch a movie. Is intel extreme graphics II sufficient for this, or is something better needed?
Thanks in advance.
Answer:
for watching movies that will be plenty.

Or play with Wolfeinstein ?

Answer:
In that case, you're going to want to get a machine with a 64MB dedicated card or better. Something like the Acer 1680 would fit.

Answer:
I'm no expert on this topic but having a dedicated graphics card would be better for your system over an integrated graphics processor. You free up your main processor and your ram so it can do other stuff and not worry about generating graphics. A dedicated graphics card with its own DDR ram would take care of that and make your processor and ram run more efficiently.
I searched long and hard at different notebooks before buying my aspire 1681, I like the fact that it has a Radeon 9700 64 MB DDR ram graphics processor so my Centrino processor doesn't really have the burden of generating graphics. I probably could play some games with my LT even though I didn't buy it for that purpose.

Answer:
Yes, i know that the dedicated graphics is much better, there are two laptops and these are the different between them : 1, 1,5Centrino(1mb cache),802,11b with Radeon 9700.
2, 1,6Centrino(2mb cache),802,11g with that integrated graphics above.

Answer:
As previously suggested, the Acer Aspire 1680 series would probably be your best option. It gives you the PM 1.5Ghz Dothan (2MB L2 Cache), ATI 9700 w/64MB (dedicated) & a DVD +/- Burner for approx $1300US. This will be able to handle everything you could probably through at it. The only minus is the battery life, 2.5hrs is a bit low, but you can but a 4000 series battery and get approx 4-5hrs on that battery.

Answer:
Integrated graphics can do more than just Office apps and internet, but it just lacks in overall performance. It takes memory away from your system ram and allocates it to video (shared memory). This reduces system performance because the CPU must work harder to do the graphics work. If you don't mind the slower performance, than Integrated video is fine, but not recommended. Getting a unit with dedicated video is just a better option. This will allow the system to perform better since the video controller has its own dedicated video memory. Also, the video chip is also usually better (more powerful). Especially the ATI 9700 GPU in the Acer 1680 series, this is one of the fastest GPU's in the market for notebooks.
Yes, Acer notebooks usually come with 4200rpm HDDs, but since the notebooks are so inexpensive, you can buy a new, faster & larger replacement HDD.
What is your price range? The 2012 units, when they were still widely available, cost approx $1300US. The Aspire 1681WLMi is the same price, so there's really no loss in performance or features.
