Considering an I9300

Question:
Considering an I9300
I'm a current owner of a Gateway MX7515 (see sig.) which isn't a bad machine, but I'm wanting better.
The company I work for has a deal going on with Dell and I wanted to find out if this was a good deal.
Inspiron 9300
M Processor 760 2GHZ
MS Media Center with recovery CD
17in UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA
1GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MGZ 2 DIMM
256MB Nvidia Go 6800
60GB Hard Drive
8x CD/DVD burner with double-layer
Intel PRO 2915 NIC/Wireless with Bluetooth
9-cell Lithium Battery
3 year limited warrenty
3 year accidental warrenty
TV Tuner w/ Remote Control
PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS
Total Cost: $2,040.65
Note: the system was $2,640 before all our discounts.
Any comments about this system or suggestions about configuration would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have seen them go for less with coupons. You may want to check for those although Dell is curtailing their coupon use. You might want to swap the hard drives before getting rid of your Gateway. The 6800 go card is greatly superior to the x600 in the MX7515.

Also, that price is including shipping and tax. The quote shows a total of $888 in discounts which is about 33% off the $2640 sticker price.. hmm...

Yes but if you look closely he added a three year warranty which no doubt boosted the price significantly

ok guy i went through dell used a coupon and configured it how you wanted minus the gig of ram. The price i got was $2,078.90 not including shipping and taxes. i have the same notebook you added the exact same things i wanted, i didnt add everything due to my budget. Your answer is GO FOR IT. The ram i didnt add it into the price because as i said i have the notebook and the ram sux, i actually need to post in this forum to see if anyone else has it and see what kind of ram they have. Also the processor i was gonna upgrade it to the 780 but i dont think i have the proper mobo for it. The reason i mention this is if you have the money you migh as well buy the 770 NOW through dell for a cheaper price then it would be if you buy it later. BUT then again maybe your dont care to upgrade it. so only thoughts are BUY IT, BUT BUY SOME REAL RAM GIVE IT SOME SUGAR! :hardfind:

Re: Considering an I9300
Dell does have a 30 percent off inspirons coupon that expires on 11/17, I would jump on this coupone, get a 1.86 ghz processor instead of the two, cut the warranty down to two years and cut the accidental coverage out altogether OR cut it down to two years as well. Dell is selling its memory for reasonable prices now so its okay to buy the memory from dell unless you have a brand that you prefer to use.
I would go with a higher capacity 5400 drive and forget the 7200 drive, they are noisy and the 5400 drives perform very very very close to the same as a 7200 would, see toms hardware and anandtech.
ALso, order the 6 cell batter, THEN add an addtional battery, the 9 cell one, this way you get BOTH, for only thirty dollars more than the price of getting just the 9 cell battery.

...and forget the 7200 drive, they are noisy Completely untrue. The only things I ever hear are the fans, which kick in when I'm playing Battlefield 2 with 64 players.
