Question:
inspiron 9300
Hi, I need some help.. i just got a new inspiron 9300..here are my system specs..
intel pentium M processor 770 2.13ghz.2mb cache/533mhz fsb
windows xp media center edition 2005
17inch untrasharp uxga screen
1GIG dua lchannel ddr2 sdram at 533mhz
256mb nvida geforce go 6800 video card
60 GIG 7200rpm hard drive
8X cd/dvd burner with double layer write capability
intel pro wireless 2200 802.11b/g mbps
intergrated 10/100 network card and modem
My questions are: 1) i tried to get new drivers for the video card from extremeg and the nvidia website..both started install and stated my graphics card did not supported. i heard the dell drivers are garbage and would like to update them.
2) under system info it says my cpu is 2.13ghz. but the speed next to it sometimes says 788mhz and sometimes higher..i went to the battery settings and set it for maximum performance..is there anything else i need to do?
3) I ran 3dmark05 benchmarking utilitly and i was getting like 15fps ....how can this be possible?...any help would be appreciated...thanks

Re: inspiron 9300
1) I am still running the dell drivers, and they seem to work fine for me.
2) That is called speed step. It turns down your cpu when you don't need full power in order to save energy and prevent heat from building up. Trust me, when your cpu needs the power, it will go back to 2.13ghz. IF you want, there's a program called centrino hardware control that will let you set it to full all the time.
3) You got me there.

TRy updating your video card drivers on the Dell website. That is what I did and everything worked fine.

Ya, the Dell drivers are SUPPOSE to be optimal for the components in the Dell laptops. But there have been times when people discover more advantageous ones, just not that often.

i did install the dell drivers..and im still getting 15fps on that benchmarking software...also my hard drive is constantly getting bad ratings from benchmarking software...i thought upgrading to the 7200rpm hard drive would give me great performance..i dont know..im doing a clean install for windows tomorow..maybe that will help..

first off, your driver problem, you need to get drivers for the nvidia 6800go card, you shouldnt get them fron nvidia because what you got was actually drivers for the desktop version of the card, get your drivers from dell so you are certain they are for the laptop version of the card, the 6800go.
as to your second problem, your power saving settings are set to throttle your cpu down to 800mhz, adjust the settings in your control panel for power to prevent this from happening if you are not using the battery.
oh yeah, dont forget to get rid of those desktop drivers that you installed before installing the proper laptop card drivers for the video card
