A65 memory question

Question:
A65 memory question
I have Toashiba A65-S126 with XP Home and 256mb ram. I want to upgrade to 512mb ram and thought I could just stick in another 256 stick, but I have been told there is only one slot and I will have to remove the existing 256 stick and put in a 512mb stick. Is this correct? What a shame to have to remove perfectly good ram. Thanks. Tim

Re: A65 memory question
You're right and wrong. There is one slot, but it's not in use. The 256MB RAM doesn't use that slot. You can get an upgrade from someone like Crucial.

So, the 256 ram is "onboard" and not occupying a slot then? I had went to the Crucial site and had them run there sytem scan on my laptop and I thought there scan said the slot was full and I had to remove the 256 to insert a 512mb stick. maybe I read it wrong or there scan was wrong. Thanks.

Re: A65 memory question
Maybe someone else can confirm, but it's either on the MB or a second slot that's not accessible. I'm fairly certain there is one open slot.

Maybe someone else can confirm, but it's either on the MB or a second slot that's not accessible. I'm fairly certain there is one open slot. I took the cover off where the ram goes and looked and it appears there is a empty slot for a ram module. I guess the 256mb ram is onbaord the MB and I also guess you cannot completly go by the scan at the Crucial website. Thanks for all your help.
