1 dimm vs 2 dimm
on dell.com when choosing options for any notebook the 1 dimm of 512 mb is more expensive then the 2 dimm.why is this? i thought 2 dimm of 512 mb was better then 1 dimm of the same mb?

...Why would 2 dimms be better? (I believe you're thinking of dual channel ram--no notebooks have this feature yet).
As far as costs go, One dimm of the same capacity is obviously more expensive, as the ram density is higher than two dimms totalling an equivalent amount.
The bottom line is, using one dimm of 512 mb (rather than two at 256 each) still leaves you an empty dimm slot to add, say another 512 mb down the road, rather than having to toss one 256 to add another chip.

ohh ok i get it.. 512 mb split into 2.. wow i feel dumb.. i have only 256 mb of ram... i just ordered two 512 memory modules.. .so that is equivalent to 1 gb.. is it better to just get 1 gb or two seperate 512 mb?

yeah, two 512mb would work better than a 1gb stick. The latency of the gig stick would lag a little but it is unnoticeable. I don't see why people would get over a gig of ram in a notebook. Am I right?

yea...i have 512 MB dual channel ram...and it works better than a lotta my friend's laptops with only 1 GB stick of ram...and the main reasons people would get over a gig of ram in a notebook is because of:
1. hardcore gaming
2. heavy duty application use

yeah, like running two games at once. I only run about 700-800mbs total when running CS-Source. I don't know about Battlefield 2 though. I understand for video and photo editing purposes but not the gaming.

for the most smoothest hardcore gaming experience ;) ..lol...but i might get up to 1.25 GB RAM by adding 1 GB stick to the 256 MB stick already in my laptop
