Question:
Communicating from Italy to Here
The penalties of laptops! I just start to get familiar with my new 700m and I have to go to Italy and am expected to stay connected and VPN in. So, any help or advice (other than offers of substitution) regarding wireless cards/service and/or modem/service would be greatly appreciated. Apparently roam charges on US plans are $.99 and up per min. (including Cingular's wireless card). I know if I hit a wireless internet connection I can access free and get free voice calls but I don't know if that's as widely available as here and I can't find any data. Anyone know? Otherwise thar requires a service plan too. I looked at International Dialer which offers less costly wireless internet service in Italy but I can't tell how broad their coverage is either. The best idea I could come up with absent free wireless internet was a modem card (Sony Ericsson GC83 EDGE PC) and buying a SIM in Italy and slipping it in to avoid roaming charges. As you see I'm lost so any advice from European road warriors would be greatly appreciated! :(

Re: Communicating from Italy to Here
You should be able to connect to a local hotspot and do all the net surfing you need. The only issue is that the hotspot routers they use may not allow for VPN pass-through support. Here's an explanation of VPN Pass-Through:

This might not allow you to achieve a VPN connection with your company. Is your company sending you to Italy? If so, the company should provide internet access to you or at least allow you to connect to one of their local offices to get network connectivity.
