Question:
Users/Owners of HP dv1000 & Compaq v2000. I need some help...
After talking to some friends and reading different reviews on these two products, I pretty much decided on the HP dv1000 until I got a chance to look at these two notebooks at CompUSA. I don't know which one to get anymore. Very confused... :(
If you own one of these notebooks, can I get your opinions on these?
I also have a few questions....
HP dv1000
- Does the glossy screen ever become bothersome when using it for a long period of time?
- Does it scratch easily?
- Do you like the touchpad and the thumb-buttons? Do you find it hard to use the thumb-buttons? I thought it was a little hard to press....
- Does the outside of the laptop get scratched easily? Does the silver paint ever come off and make the outside look ugly?
Compaq v2000
- Does the touchpad area or anywhere inside (silver/grey area) of the notebook ever get scratched or wear off?

1. I had a brightview screen on my hp, and I found that it did get bothersome after a while. I couldnt stare at it for more than...say..20 - 30 min. Maybe this is just me, so lets hear what other people have to say! I bought a new laptop with a matte screen, and it is so much easier on my eyes....
2.Well, it has a glossy coating on some parts of the laptop, so I assume that it would scratch pretty easily.
3.I thought the buttons were a little hard to use too. Like, they should have pushed down easier. The touchpad is pretty good though, although I think it could have had a slightly smoother surface.

Did you buy a new laptop because you weren't satisfied with the HP dv1000? Would you recommend it? Could you tell me a little more about what you liked and disliked about the dv1000? Thanks! :)

I think many people like the dv1000 becuase it makes watching DvDs very easy.
Personally, I think the V2000z's have a much nicer look over all. I think its a very clean and efficient design and is the nicest looking machine since apple.

Yeah, I just got a DV1000.
There's two things I don't like about it.
the Brightview screen is too glossy!
the 12 cell battery is very heavy and sticks out pretty badly.
Is there anything I can do about the screen?

It's a sexy laptop and featured in Ikea's 2006 catalogue.
You love it once you've got it in your hands. The looks is really under played in pictures. Trust me, it's beautiful in the flesh. Performance is pretty good as well.

Hey hey how are you.
I just recently got a dv1000 series. You should check out the thread above this one that says "Newbie Help" and you can read about a seemingly common problem with these laptops. If it bothers you it'll probably help you make a decision.
As for the screen, I actually like the glossy surface. It just seems a lot more vivid and I was pretty impressed with it. Most desktop LCDs and other laptops I've seen seem to have very dull colors and what not.

I finally got a notebook, the HP DV4000. I used to look at the BrightView screens in store and thought they were so cool. But after having one for a while and looking at it, I don't like it very much. There is a lot of glare, looking at my face is pretty annoying and I don't think the colors are that much more vibrant and better looking than on a matte screen.

Where did your notebooks ship from? Looking at my order status, it shipped from Shanghai, China. Do HP notebooks normally ship from somewhere outside of the states? Thanks.
