Answer:
I have heard July on S6220.
Answer:
Yes, this model will replace the 6210 as it has the low-speed Dothan chipset. I'd wait for it, but the feature upgrades aren't that dramatic for this type of notebook. The bigger changes will happen later this year with the next mobile processor, Alviso.

Answer:
Is there any reason to wait for the S6220, as opposed to getting the S6210 right now?
Answer:

Answer:
do u know about when later this year that the Alviso chip will come out? i want to wait for it. do u think its worth the wait? thanks
Answer:
My opinion is the new chipset (Alviso) will be worth the wait if you dont HAVE to have a new notebook now:
DDR2 support
Faster front side bus speed 533MHz
Serial ATA
Next generation audio (replacing AC 97)
Third generation graphics from Intel (not to mention removable graphics options from ATA and NVidia announced recently that will be available around that time)
Faster and cheaper Dothan chips more readily available
New chipset will have some new battery saving tricks (onboard support for a light sensor is built in - changes backlight automatically depending on lighting conditions).
802.11 a/b/g will be standard
These are some of the main things I have read about Sonoma (Centrino 2) which uses the next-gen Alviso chipset. These are major changes that should set the stage for notebooks the next 2-3 years.
Answer:
Oh, I forgot PCI Express and ExpressCard, the smaller next generation, faster interface replacement for current PC Card slots (http://www.expresscard.org). Both are introduced with Sonoma/Alviso...
Answer:
If the S6220 comes out in July, would the prices of the S6210 go down?
What would be the price of a S6220 with comparable (or better) specs to:
Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz
512MB 333mhz Ram
40GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive
Combo DVD & CDRW Drive
Intel PRO/wireless 2200BG
Hot-swap Ultra Bay
If I must have my laptop by early to mid August, what should I do? The Alviso would not be out yet, and the S6220 might not be worth the wait. Any suggestions?
I know Brian said to wait, but also said that the changes from the S6210 to the S6220 would not be that big of a deal. If so, then why should I wait.
P.S. This is my 100th post!
Answer:
Mikal, it sounds to me like like Dothan is not much better than Banias, but Alviso will be much better than both. If you can wait until "toward the end of the year" then you should, otherwise, get the Dothan or Bandias now. I would (and want to) wait for the Alviso, but I must buy within the next two months, and it will not be out by then.
The following was taken from pcmag.com
"A new chipset for the Pentium M [Alviso], jam-packed with improvements and new technologies, will make its debut toward the end of the year"
"Expectations are that the Dothan version of the Pentium M will reach at least 2.7 GHz by the end of 2004"
