Just dandy. T43 ordered on the 2nd of the month because the one that showed up on the 29th was the wrong model... rep said he would try to escalate the order to help it get here by Christmas (first order only took 12 days total... not bad for Lenovo!) and now 8 days latter it was switched from "2-4" weeks to "Status: Your product is currently back-ordered, please call for further information."
You better believe I will call their arses!! Not that it will make any difference. lol. Oh well.. so much for having my laptop on vacation & business trip *sigh* I can handle 7 day vacation with my girlfriend and no laptop, I couldn't care less... but then I'm heading straight to Cali for 3 weeks of training..... and It'd be nice to have it for all my flights, and waiting around, and hotel room and whatever... guess I will have to take the portable dvd player instead... but that will get dull after a while..... *grrrrr*

I forget how long mine was packing, but I'll bet you have it soon. Mine was delivered the morning of the third day after shipping from Hong Kong.
Keep the faith a couple more days. That T43 will be so nice you won't care about the girlfriend. :D

lol. I know. I had the other one in my hands hand had to ship it back... so I know its a beaut! In fact, this one will be even better, because they originally shipped a slightly lower end model.....

Likely either the Tom Bihn ID, or the Biz model from www.bumbakpaks.com . At the moment I haven't found anything that competes with those models... I'm keeping my eyes open though.

Those Tom Bihn look good. I didn't want to spend quite that much and wanted something compact mainly to protect the T43. Not much room for other stuff, but I got a Wenger from NewEgg.
NewEgg also has (or had) a great price on a Samsonite which looked very nice in pictures from the Samsonite web site, but I couldn't see one anywhere. Lots of good ones out there. I was able to see the Wenger at Staples.

You're lucky that you're thinkpad arrived so quickly. My T43 was shipped on Dec.7th, and its still in transit.
Funny thing though, as of yesterday, the last tracking that UPS showed was for Dec. 8th and it was in Ontario, CA. I called UPS and asked what the deal was and they told me they had no idea where my laptop was and that IBM had to call them so that they can conduct an investigation as to the whereabouts of my laptop and how it was lost.
They miraculously find it after a few hours and post on tracking that its being held by the FDA. Do you think that UPS is using FDA as an excuse for not being able to ship efficiently?
For a great backpack, I would recommend the Dakine Terminal. Its a hugh back pack that has a laptop compartment that opens from the side. It has a built in organizer compartment and small pockets to put all your wires in. This thing is built to last but it is fairly expensive. Another plus is that thiefs won't instantly recognize that its a laptop bag. On the down side, its a hugh bag and you might have trouble sliding it under an airplane seat. A smaller version is the Daking Duel. Pretty much the same features but smaller size.

No, the FDA thing is real. It happesn to *every* thinkpad order... check some of the comments/threads in this forum.. you will find other people have noted it as well.
As for backpack... I'm actually looking for a messenger or similar attache case of some type... I have considered backpacks because, depending on lifestyle it can really wear down not only your shoulder, but your spine.... which is why I was looking at www.bumbakpaks.com as a possibility. In general most backpacks don't interest me because they don't seem fit for the office job if it turns out I will end up dressing business formal (I am in the middle of a job search). There have been a few bags that seem appropriate enough to be seen with... but I'm still not sure. That was one of the appeals of the bumbakpak. It was intentionally made to work both ways (in fact primarily as a backpack), instead of just slapping on some straps like many saddlebags or other convertable bags. I'm waiting to see it in a local shop, which is their first retailer anywhere... and luckily I happen to live in NYC where J&R is located. Once I see the bag, I'll decide if I want to go with it (the Biz model), the Tom Bihn ID, or maybe some other backpack. I'm fairly convinced that *if* I go messenger style.. the ID is the way to go (with a braincell). Otherwise... the backpacks are so plentiful...... Possibly the Kensington Contour, Mountainsmith Explore, Northface Recon... *shrug*

Yes, Louisville Kentucky usually ends up being a stop over point for U.S. buyers orders and they have to watch their ThinkPads sit in some warehouse as the FDA inspects them. Takes almost a week, sometimes more. Painful.
