Question:
hibernation settins
is there a way to set my laptop so i can use it to download during the night like my desktop? usually I just leave the computer on and turn off the monitor, but I kinda tried doing that last night but closing the lid just puts the computer to hibernate. Is there a manual off button for the screen? Can I turn off the screen w/o turning off the laptop ? Should i be even considering this cause laptops are more fragile?

sounds like you just need to adjust your power settings
You can do this two ways..
1.) if you have quickset installed, you can change your settings here.
2.) right click on your desktop-->properties-->screensaver-->power.
You can change it so that when you close the lid, it does nothing. Laptops by default automatically turn off the screen when you close the lid.
