i9300 hissing sound

Question:
i9300 hissing sound
Hi,
I got my i9300 a few weeks ago. Since a couple of days, it always does a very high pitched hissing noise. Seems like the noise comes from the left part of the computer.
It's there most of the time, but it's more noticeable when I'm surfing the web. When I scroll a window, it often stops, but just as soon as my scrolling is done, it goes on again.
Somebody suggested to me that it might be the battery. So I tried running it without battery, but the noise is still there. Is there anyone who knows what it might be? It's getting really annoying.

Re: i9300 hissing sound
I found a cure for the problem... I always need to have something running in backgroud. For example, if I run media player but mute the sound, I don't hear the hissing anymore.
Anyone have a better idea?

Re: i9300 hissing sound
Have you tried running some Anti-Virus software on your 9300?
Check your system tray and see if your not running something in the background that is using your sound.
I had a older Desktop computer that made a hissing sound and found out it was some type of software that was installed by my wife when she unknowingly installed it when a box showed up from a site she visited.
It was also a major resource hog.

Re: i9300 hissing sound
I did a complete virus scan and spyware scan... without any results.
By the way, the hissing also stops when I perform a scan or any other task requiring some kind of cpu usage.

Re: i9300 hissing sound
Have you tried just hitting the mute button, and muting the speakers, or go to the advanced volume controls and hit the mute button. Does that help?
EDIT: Thins like this can often be caused by interference by other devices. My speakers sometimes humm when im getting a cell phone call, or when the lights turn on, or some other electrical device is used.

Hi Toiletsiphon,
i have an xps m140 and i heard the same hissing sound. Nothing worked for me until i remove the macromedia flash 8. that helps to reduce noise on any web page that run flash 8. i have not figure out how to stop the noise when playing a music file though.

have you tried changing usb power setting?

Re: i9300 hissing sound
No I haven't. Can you tell me how?
By the way, the sound is not coming from the speakers, it seems like it's the motherboard itself.
Oh and I also have another issue... my microphone only works 1/3 of the time... I tried with different mics, still does the same thing, even after reinstalling the audio drivers. Any idea?

Re: i9300 hissing sound
You could have a faulty sound card - I'd check with Dell to see what the heck is happening - this isn't normal.

Re: i9300 hissing sound
its not the sound card. its is cpu/mobo related problem. it happens with a lot of pentium m based computers. some of the chips just hiss. changing the usb power settings works for some people, but not for me. it stops making noise when the cpu is under light load, but when it idles it makes the hiss. o and does the cpu make a different hiss when the clock speed changes. that is what happens for me.
