It all depends. Some deals are "red hot" and will only last 1-7 days, while others may last up to 6-months.

They did a nice deal during the first week the new Dv4000 /X700 came out... free second battery and the X700 was a $99 option, plus the $50 rebate. The spare battery disappeared and the GPU went up to $150 in a week. I think there was a lesson there.

If you're looking for bigger $$ savings, you should follow the deals in Staples circulars. They change weekly and often beat the HPShopping.com pricing, but you have to actually go into the Staples store to use their build-to-order kiosk. The HPShopping.com pricing usually lasts several weeks before they change it, and usually the changes seem to net out to about the same price when all is said and done.

HPShopping ends to start new deals on weekends, and particularly around the end of the month.

Re: HP Deals Length?
Yes, you can build-to-order in Staples, and also Costco, Office Depot, etc, and lots of the other places they sell HP's. Staples tends to have the best price ongoing, though any of them could have a sudden deal that beats anyone else.
They all get built-to-order in the same factory in China and all get FedEx'd to your door the same way. The only difference is where you've paid. Of course, in most stores you will pay sales tax, and at HPShopping.com in most states you won't. Even paying sales tax you might come out cheaper in Staples. My DV1000 did.
No, you don't get the student discount also...only the store's pricing. But it can often beat the student pricing or the EPP pricing.

Sometimes, the HP laptops can be reasonable at Costco, a few bucks cheaper if you are a member (you have to be to purchase products there).
The really great thing about Costco is their wonderful 6-month return policy. :D
