Re: compaq d4000t question
this is the RAM im looking at...
mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory - Retail
does the PC2 4200 have a differnce from the PC 4200 as mentioned by jenson04
i'm also thinking of getting two of these...
G.SKILL 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Notebook Memory - Retail
does the brand name matter that much because if i bought two of these i would save $20.

Re: compaq d4000t question
Yes it matters, PC vs PC2 is the same thing as DDR vs DDR2, in which case yes it does matter. (I think it means pin compatible) I would recommend that you buy RAM that has a lifetime warranty. You need PC2 4200 533 MHz. I would recommend going with a company that has a good rep like Kingston, Transcend, or Crucial. I haven't really heard anything about G.Skill
