Question:
5720 Elantech Touchpad
Well I just got my Sager NP5720 yesterday and have spent just about every one of the last 24 hours setting it up. There are good things I like about it, but I'll save that for some other time... right now I'm at my wits end about this POS touch pad.
The problem is that if you set the pointer speed high enough to be suitable to a large (17") screen the precision goes to crap and you can't zero in on anything.
There are other threads, but I thought I'd start a new one solely focused on this issue.
Uninstalling the KTP Ware (Elantech) drivers and using just the bare XP drivers with pointer speed set to max and "enhanced precision" checked is the best solution I've come up with so far. But the pointer is STILL to slow for my taste, maxed in XP is about 65% of max with the Elantech drivers installed.
I tried the latest Synaptics drivers, they installed, but were effectively disabled and resulted in identical performance to the bare XP drivers.
So, with the Elantech drivers uninstalled and just use the default XP drivers I get far better usability, albeit still slow, and yes scrolling does work in FireFox.
The elantech drivers have an option for "dynamic motion" or "dynamic precision" or something that you'd think was similar to XP's "enhanced precision" but it seems to have little to no effect in actuality.
Anyway word on when Elantech / KTP ware might update there drivers for enhance pointer precision?
This is going to be a deal breaker for me. If I can't get this to be "acceptable" in the next few days my brand new beautiful 5720 is going back to Sager.

Re: 5720 Elantech Touchpad
Let me ask you this - when you go into the Control Panel and open up the Mouse, have you tried going to "Quick Setup" and adjusting the pointer from there? I was able to adjust my speed just fine, it is now very fast.
Be sure to do a Windows update, sometimes that may give you the latest touchpad drivers.

I consider the touchpad to be the poorest implemented feature of this notebook and I blame the Elantech software for this. IMO Clevo should find a new OEM to replace this crap. I don't think Sager has a choice in this but I may be wrong.
I use a mouse 99% of the time and the other 1% I just deal with it.

I've adjusted the slider bar in the XP "Mouse" control panel to maximum and it's still too slow. I don't recall a "quick setup" function in the standard control panel, but I'll looks again.
Like I said, the problem is the precision when the speed is set high enough in the KTP/Elantech control panel... I found some interesting reading.

Although, I'm guess Google cached these pages, and Elantech removed the original PDF's because I can only get to the HTML versions. I especially like how they compare themselves to synaptics...

That's a bummer. I guess it's not the kind of thing you'll just get used to over time?

I personally think that returning the 5720 for the touchpad is ironic.
Why not just get a mouse or travel mouse?

90% of my computer use is done at home on the couch. It's impractical to use a mouse when the laptop is actually sitting on my lap.
For 5 years I've exclusively and happily used the synaptic touch pad on my HP it's what I'm used to.
I refuse to spend the next 5 years choosing between dragging my finger across the touchpad five times to get from one side of the screen to the other or being able to line the pointer up correctly in the corner of a window to re-size it. Right now I have to choose betwene one or the other.
Note, it's not a matter of using the touchpad for detailed graphics work, or some particular application, unless you count "windows".
