IS the standard warranty on the HP dv8000z on hpshopping.com a Global warranty....

Not to my knowledge. All the warranties by HP are by default( irrespective of model) are US warranty only.
I would give them a call to make sure though.

I don't recall who the poster was, but I recall a recent thread where a poster was angry about this very issue. Apparently, this poster did call and was told that the warranty would be honored globally. It wasn't.
There are a few military servicepeople on the boards who also ran into the same issue -- they couldn't get their notebooks serviced until they came back to the states.
