Just got my DV5000z and theres a problem

Question:
Just got my DV5000z and theres a problem
I just got this thing today the HP DV5000Z and there is this extremely high pitched ringing noise that is coming from the battery when I have the ac adaptor plugged in. when i unplug the ac adaptor the ringing noise goes away but is replaced by a grinding noise that is loud enough to hear and be bothered by. Is this totally normal for a laptop? This is my first laptop ever and this thing is great minus the ringing that has given me a huge headache already. it may not be loud loud but it is very noticeable and beyond annoying. can anyone else with an HP or compaq let me know if they hear any ringing/high pitched noises coming from theres?
thanks

Yikes. I am getting mine in a week or two. I will definetly keep an eye on this...
What cell battery do you have?

Re: Just got my DV5000z and theres a problem
it's a 6 cell battery and as a follow up I've discovered a few things.....
it is NOT the battery. it happens ONLY when the ac adaptor is plugged in and the noise still happened when i removed the battery and just ran it off ac power.
the noise comes from the area on the bottom near the battery area maybe under the battery or somewhere down there.
i called hp support and they tried to convince me this is normal. I'm returning this thing if I don't find a solution by the end of this weekend. I can't deal with a pounding headache everytime i use the laptop plugged in

Sounds like something's defective. Grinding noise... from the cooling fan, the HD, ? Ringing noise... I doubt it's the battery, but maybe the voltage regulator on the motherboard? Does the power brick itself make any noise or run hot?
Odds are it got smacked too hard during transit. Trace the problem as best you can and, assuming it's not something simple, get a replacement.

Hmm.. Making an electrical noise?
I also had a high pitch ringing electrical noise problem recently.. Until I discovered it wasn't really a problem...
When running Linux with glxgears and 3D Acceleration on my Compaq v4000t (X700 graphics card), I get a high pitch ring that sounds like it is coming from under the enter button.
This is actually normal. Its because you're transferring 4809 Frames per second of OpenGL accelerated 2D data into the 70 Hz refresh rate of the monitor. The noise is caused by capacitors. The Desktop graphics cards do the same thing, but because the card is inside the case, its almost impossible to hear. When you run a more complex 3D program, which only runs at 748 frames per second (such as fglrx_gears, which is just a single 3D box and an animated gears texture on the outside) the high pitch ring almost goes away.. Its only audible when the fans on the laptop aren't running..
In actual practice though, I don't run anything that runs at more than about 350 frames per second (Such as those old OpenGL Music Visualation plugins for XMMS).. So as it turns out... This ringing problem that I thought was a problem really isn't a problem at all..
But for you, it seems like a real problem..

Well I think I may have solved my problem even though the matter which I solved it is probably not good. I figured it was ringing because it took a good jolt in shipping so I packaged it back up and jolted it around. I gave it a few subtle whacks, not enough to do real damage I think, and I opened it back up. I booted it up, plugged it in and now it seems fine. No more ringing after 30 minutes of use.

Just fyi, your ringing sound was definitely not normal. Mine is pretty quiet. I would return it, especially after the whacking, lol.
