Acer LCD problem

Question:
Acer LCD problem
I bought an Acer 5002wlmi in Oct 05. I mainly keep it on my desk and rarely move it. I have never dropped it. While working on it 2 or 3 weeks ago, the right 5th portion of the screen, became distorted. The image flickered like a bad TV signal. All I did was touch the back of the screen and the distortion ended. Then last week while working on the computer, the same thing happened. I touched the screen hoping to shake out the distortion again but it persisted. It continued and then eventually went blank. So now the right portion of my screen is dead. I can't see my clock or any items in the right corner of my task bar. And it's point less to maximize windows. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it?

...So now the right portion of my screen is dead. I can't see my clock or any items in the right corner of my task bar. And it's point less to maximize windows. Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? Is the right side completely dead? Or can you still make out icons and other images, but without any back light? Is it completely off even on startup and even if you went into bios? If so, you'll need to RMA it. The display panel will have to be replaced. If it was only flickering, I'd say it might've been a loose connection, but now that part of your screen is gone, it must be more serious than that.

Re: Acer LCD problem
Well they shouldn't be selling refurbs without letting you know. If they say that it may or may not be a refurb, that totally sounds fishy and I'd say look elsewhere. You can also call them up or email them to make sure that the item was not a refurb or used. As for faulty screens, it's not an Acer thing, it's just one out of a bunch and goes for all manufacturers. I've seen it on the very best and I've seen it on the very budget too. Faulty hardware does not discriminate and should happen rarely.

Re: Acer LCD problem
Well in the US, there should be a label affixed onto the unit and/or printed on the box. I dont know how it is in Iran, but you can try calling Acer Global and ask them. They'll just ask for you serial number and they could tell you if it was refurbished or not. If it was used or "refurbished" by some guy at the store you bought it from, then it wouldn't be in the system. You can contact the regional headquarters:
Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.
P.O. BOX 16951
Jebel Ali Free Zone
Dubai, U.A.E
e-mail: webmaster@acer.co.ae
Telephone Number: 009714-8813111
Facsimile Number: 009714-8812200

Telephone Number: 800-4711
Hope that helps! :)

Just like a bad CD drive or a bad battery. These are random things than dont normally happen, but is still covered under warranty. As for a CrystalBrite screen problem, I wouldn't say it's a worldwide problem, it was just by chance that you 2 had the same problem. If it was an epedemic, then you'd see Acer doing a major recall, and not putting them on more systems. I would say that "I take care of my stuff" too, but one day my old HP had only 1 side of my screen backlit, after 2 years of usage and out of warranty, I still replaced the panel anyways and it worked fine. If your systems are still under warranty, I'd say take advantage of the warranty and get it replaced. If its out of warranty, the cost of a new panel should be in the $350 ballpark.
