Dead pixels on HP's...

Question:
Dead pixels on HP's...
Are dead pixels an issue with the newer HP's? I have a two year old zt1175 that has been on the road most of it's life. The only problem I has was a bad screen wire harness. ($60.00 fix)
I've heard some of the newer Compaq/HP laptops have been showing up with pixels DOA. Is this true? Is this becoming an issue with HP?

Answer: It's not a issue specific to HP. It's everyone in general. Since LCD's now have more pixels per inch, some are bound to be bad from the LCD manufacturer. The XGA LCD's with a 1024x768 res has 786,432 pixels, but a system with a the same sized LCD can have an SXGA+ LCD which has a res of 1400x1050 has 1,470,000 pixels. I know there should be a level of quality control, but it's possible the LCD's tested for QC didn't have any problems.

Answer: Same here, I've had the N800c, N620c & the NX7000. All of which had no dead pixels. I even got replacement units for the N620c & the NX7000 also without problems.

Answer: Don't think there are any particular issues. My Compaq, with its UXGA screen (1600 x 1200) had no dead pixels, or at least none that I could notice these past 2 years.

Pretty good for 2002 isn't it?
Answer: I have an HP zx5000...no dead pixels yet. (Only about three months into ownership though [:)])

HP nx7010 DU259A: Pentium-M 1.6GHz, 2x256MB RAM, 60GB 7200RPM HDD, 64MB Radeon 9200, 15.4" WXGA, XP Pro.
Answer: I will be new to notebooks when I finally decide on a unit. In the HP category, I'm looking at the zt3000 and the nx7010.
How will I know if it has dead pixels?
I saw one post said it was colors like bright green or red. I would think it would be just a black hole.
Please help so I will know when my notebook comes.
Thanks.
Answer: it depends on how exactly the pixel fails. it may either be a black hole, or it may light up in a specific color like red, etc.
you'll know it when you see it.
