For bang for the buck, try the S96J or the Z96j
If you can increase your budget by maybe a hundred or two more, there's the A8jm.
I'd suggest taking a look at those for starters.

Z96J/S96J are definitely nice - but you want a 14" and the 96Js has a 15.4" screen.

Oh whoops, didn't see the 14".
Take a look at the W3J then, though that'll run you another $400...

Thw W3J is really nice but I don't play games on laptops. Do I really need a X1600 graphic card?

how about the w7j, its 13.3" but its got the same resolution as most 14" notebooks. Its a good balance between power and portability (although leaning a bit more towards the latter). Its got a geforce 7400 which is decent for everything but high end games and its much cheaper than the w3j (about $1450 stock).

Look at the S62J if you don't need really powerful graphics.... it's a VBI - BOA model so you can customize it according to your need, and should be cheaper than the W7J or A8Jm...

OK, I'm with Darrick, let's do a reality check here.....
No, for the uses you describe you don't need a dedicated gpu like the x1600 (which would be waaaaay overkill for office apps, photoshop and dvd's). There is a place in the world for integrated or low-end graphics cards, and the needs you have fit right into it. Plus, with Igpu you can get lower system temps, longer battery life and all the functionality you require.
People here need to look at the request and consider what is being asked - for $1400, if that is a firm budget, you can build a very nice Z62f, S62j, Z62j, or even Z35f and get a great system that will meet all of your expressed needs with plenty of room to spare; most folks around here don't think of those, but I won't speculate why. Alternatively, as others pointed out for around $100 more you could step to the W7j or A8jm. The '62j series have low-end dedicated gpu's which could be a bonus for your budget and (straightforward) needs. There is such a thing as purchasing to match your needs - if you can get more for your budget it's a bonus, but don't feel like you've been short-changed if you look at the 4 systems above as they are all solid performers for their intended market.

The same idea is to go for z62f or z62j. To use for work, photoshop and DVD movies do not require a fast GPU, or high end video. Many models from some dealers cannot be customized the parts such as cpu, memory and hard drive. If you would like to choose a specify brand name or models, z62 series will be recommended.
