15.4" XPS system, will there be another?
Do you think dell will make another 15.4" XPS laptop? I wish they did have one in their XPS lineup because currently, its like they have both extremes covered, the ultra portable and the desktop replacement, but they dont have a midrange 15.4 formfactor in the XPS lineup anymore. If they had a new one, it would be my next dell laptop, id save money to buy it =)

i wouldn't be surprised if they came out with one...although I haven't heard any real rumors yet (i heard about the M140 and M1210 several months in advance through the rumor mills).
most likely, we'll see one equipped with either the X1600, X1700, 7600, or 7700. Unless they pull off another miracle like they did with the M1210's 7400...then we might see an heavily underclocked 7900GS.
before anyone laughs at that statement: i've read reports of people fitting 7900GS class GPUs into a 15.4" Precision...it was underclocked and underpowered, but it still beat a X1600. i'll post the link if i ever find it again.
i could not wait any longer, so I got the system in my sig. all for about $400 more than what the M1210 price point would have been...fair deal to me.

Well, getting the 7400 into the M1210 was easier than getting a 7900 into a 15.4". But, seeing how thick the M1210 is, I personally believe that it would be feasible to make a 15.4" thick enough to stuff a 7900GS in there. But is it likely? Probably not. But a 15.4" XPS is a great idea... as is a 14" XPS. Pop a 7700 into those... I'd be a happy camper.

I really really wanted a 15.4" XPS when I was looking at them. I mean I love my 1210, and it can game ok now, but I would have loved a 15" XPS with a 7600. If they were to put in a 7900GS into something that small, they would need a big cooling upgrade for that much power in that small of a case. Like 2 fans/dual heat pipes. If they could fit that, along with a 7900GS into a 15'' case, I could see it being a full power 7900, now that would be awesome. The power of a staked 1705 in a 15" case. Wow I would have loved to have that.

Like I said, I don't really think it's the length x width dimensions in the Dell that make a huge difference, because the 17" models are barely 1" larger in both respects. So increasing the thickness and adding a fan on the back instead of the sides for instance, then throw some AS5 in there... I think it's possible. But that's just my opinion.

would you have been more happy if the m1210 was really a m13.310? I think Dell needs to make an entry into the 13.3" market with their xps/inspiron lines.
Don't get me wrong, I love my m1210 but I would have bought an xps with a 13.3" screen in a heartbeat over the 12.1"

Well look at your 1210's screen sureshot, It looks big enough for a 13.3 inch screen does it not? Look at the line that borders around the screen, if the screen was there it could accomodate a 13.3 incher. But then I guess there wouldnt be any room for the camera and mobile broadband wiring and such, but yeah I really would rather of had a 15" XPS with a 7600, but the 1210 is still good.

Yes yes, the shell on the m1210 appears large enough to accommodate a 13.3" screen. But that should be all the more reason why Dell should make a 13.3 screen in the XPS line to fill the gap between the 12.1" and 17" XPS m1710.
There seem to be more 13.3" screens in the ultraportable market with the sony sz and apple macbook, while I only see toshiba and avertec with 12.1" machines. Sony and Apple are top of the line models, so should be the XPS line.

Well currently I think it would be pointless to make a 13.3" XPS when there's already a 12.1. A 15.4 would be perfect for the XPS line because the middle between the 2 extreames of the 1210 and the 1710 exist. A 1510 would be perfect.

As I am still in the middle of shopping for a laptop; I would have loved to been given the choice of a 14.1-15.4 "gaming" model from Dell. If they had a 14-15 inch laptop with a 7600 in it I would have bought it weeks ago. The Dell 14.1-15.4 models are extreamly close to what I want but the graphics solutions in the are just too weak for my taste.
It makes me wonder how many sales dell has missed out on by not offering a mainstream size "gaming" notebook.
