Question:
E1705: How do I determine which display I have?
I've gone into Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Monitors. All I have listed is Default Monitor. I do not have a Plug and Play monitor listed. How can I determine if I have the LG or the Samsung? Is there some type of software I can run that will scan the drive and tell me what I have?

may be calling support and give them the mod/part/ser number of ur machine?
or take the lcd apart and look at the part number on the back
or take a look at ur manual, may be luckily u can see the replacement part number for the lcd
software scanning lcd model/manufaturer? - that would be really nice

I have the Sharp display and it looks really good. I haven't noticed any leaks others have seen with other displays.
If you go back to the monitors under the device manager and then double click on it or right click and select properites, then select Details you should see the model number after the word display and should be able to google that. You can also log into dell and find that information under MY Account an d add your service tag which will provide you with the components of your laptop.

That "Sharp" just implies that you have the ultrasharp display, not that it's branded "Sharp". Dell uses Samsung and LG panels. Samsungs are not as bright, have warmer colors, and less light leakage. LG panels are brighter, more accurate in color, and have some more light leakage. Most who have seen both displays say they prefered the LG.
You can tell which you have by checking the properties of Plug and Play Monitor under the "Monitors" heading in the Display Manager. If it starts with an L000 or something similar, it's LG, otherwise I believe the Samsung is NECxxx. Hope this helps.

No. aglowlight is right. Sharp is referring to the Japanese electronics maker SHARP. Dell not only uses Samsung & LG for its 17" WUXGA screens, it also uses SHARP. For the 17" WXGA+, Dell uses Samsung, LG as well as AUO.

I was under the impression that they only used Sharp displays for the XPS series. I stand corrected. By the way, SEC = Samsung. LPL = LG.

digitaltrav, you're not totally wrong because Dell only recently started using SHARP WUXGA LCDs for the E1705.
