Question:
blue screen of death! help!!
i've had my laptop for about 5 months now and on random occasions i'd get blue screens of death, but never thought anything of it. about 2 weeks ago i started getting blue screens of death on startup which i had never gotten before.
however for the past 2 days i haven't been able to get my laptop to boot up without crashing. i get a blue screen of death every time i try to turn on my computer normally and i can only use the computer if i boot into safe mode.
the blue screen says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and the stop error is 0x00000050 (0xE3179000, 0x00000000, 0x85B83CEA, 0x00000001)
so basically, i'll turn it on, windows will start to load but then it blue screens. i think the error is caused by a software problem, but i have no idea what could be causing this.
please help, i really want to be able to use my laptop again

Can you boot into Safe Mode?

Re: blue screen of death! help!!
yeah i can, my laptop is actually on in safemode right next to me. i looked in the event logs and it seems as if most of the errors are coming from the trend micro security center, but i have no idea why.
do you think that if i remove the security center it will fix the problem?

ok, if you can boot in safe mode you are doing fairly good,
make sure your files are ok,
once you boot in safe mode
open windows explorer
right click on C:\ (or your system boot drive likely C:\)
click properties
then click on the 'tools' tab
where it say's error checking(first one) click 'check now'
when a dialog box comes up with 2 options check both of them
because you are checking all of your harddrive including windows, you will have to restart your computer. (do it)
everthing else is done by the computer. it could take a little while so just walk away for a little while.
if there is still the same problem try using system restore
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Note# select a date that is before any of the BSOD(blue screen of death)
System restore usually works on just about anything, so ideal could be using your computer in a few minutes.
good luck, i hope it works out for you!

Re: blue screen of death! help!!
yuio - i'll try the error checking thing, but i already tried using system restore and it didn't help with anything, the blue screens are still there. :/
reezin - i've seen the first link before, but it still helped me a little bit. the second link looks like it could be spyware or a virus so i'm not going to download it. besides, i'm not even typing using my laptop right now.
thanks for the help everybody, this forum is great.
