Did you order the OS back CD with your notebook???
Hey All,
I made up my mind, and will purchase the DV2000T C2D. However, I am unsure if I should get eh OS back cd for $19.
Is it just the OS with out any drivers? Or is it exactly the same CD/DVD you are prompted to burn when you first boot your notebook? Also, if it is just the OS that comes with the CD, does that mean I will have to visit HP.copm to download the rest of the Drivers/Utilities?
So should I get it?
Thanks, Gio

I bought it for the dv9000t. It was actually 2 dvd's - from the looks of it, it restores it to factory state. All drivers, apps, bloatware, and OS.
Hope that helps,
Zany

It costs $19 for 2 DVD recovery. And when my dv6000 came home, I have no CDs included, and when you start the machine for the first time, it said that it has a recovery inside the HDD, and it also said that there's no need to create back up DVDs, but if you want to, it will let you do it. I would say it's not worth for $19.

I've been trying to make the same decision for the dv2000t I'm looking at.

I didn't have that option when I ordered my laptop. I just called HP and I got one sent to me for free.

Zany The two DVDs are OS Recovery disk and Recovery Software disk. These WILL NOT return your laptop to factory default. Only the recovery partition and the DVDs that you can burn from it will do this job.
The Recovery Software diks contains the big Swsetup folder (I'm not sure for the right spelling of the name) which you have on the HDD when the laptop comes. The OS recovery disk is a full windows OEM version, which will only work on this laptop. It is locked to the BIOS and the hardware of the machine, so no use of trying it on other computers without a valid new key.

I just went back and looked at my 2 dvd contents. Here's what I found:
- They have a size of disc 1: 7.74gb, disk 2: 755 mb.
- It says on the DVD itself - "Installing this disc will return your computers's hard disk drive to its orignial software configuration."
- There are no individual install or setup files or swsetup folder.
That's 8gig of data! The OS would fit on a CD as you know, and the SW folder is something like 3.5gig. So, what's the other data??
I have not actually used this to restore, so I don't know for sure, but to quote myself - "from the looks of it, it restores it to factory state."
Have you actually done a restore, or are you making an educated guess like I am? :)
