Freeze for a few seconds on Z96J

Question:
Freeze for a few seconds on Z96J
Anyone else notice this? It happens at random times, most of the time the mouse stops moving. It happens especially if I try to shut off BitComet as soon as I turn on the computer. It's also happened a couple of times while moving files to my SD card.
It happens about 2-3 times a day depending on what I'm doing, and its really annoying. It usually lasts around 10-20 seconds, though its sometimes shorter or longer. Is this expected behaviour for this computer? It unfreezes after a bit - I've noticed it while using 'Game' setting on Power4Gear, now I changed over to Super Performance to see if that has a difference.
Thnx,
Cat

something is either frying or overheating or overloading... maybe its graphics maybe its cpu or possibly ram or hard drive... i'd check those components first if i were u.

Re: Freeze for a few seconds on Z96J
Very good point hmmm. The CPU is at 51*C, and the HDD is 37*C according to NHC. I haven't overclocked anything and i don't usually have NHC running 0 just for a min or 2 to check the comp stats and temps then I shut it down again.
What I did now is go through all the different startup processes using msconfig and disabled any I didn't need, such as the Intel Wireless assistant, and a bunch of other stupid things. I'm hoping one of them is the culprit..but it could just be thier computer. It seems to be cursed, with a flickering screen, freezes, dead pixels and who knows what else [:(].

If the problem doesn't relate to the memeory(I assumed that you have tested the memory already and doesn't show you any error there), then I still wonder the overheat issue about the video memory. If i meet this problem, i will take out the cpu and gpu cooling fan and verify whether the paste can touch the memory chip.

Is your HDD light stuck on while this pause happens? If so, it could be HDD or some process which hogs up resources.

If you have a lot of torrents, BitComet could do that. Or any other program for that matter. You might want to check the Task Manager and see how much RAM the system is consuming.

it happens with my asus z35f. according to another thread, this is common among asus notebooks. a disappointment if you ask me.

Re: Freeze for a few seconds on Z96J
according to another thread, this is common among asus notebooks. That is incorrect. Freezes _can_ be related to recurring bugs in the hardware, but I hardly believe this is the case with ASUS notebooks in general.
It can be any number of things:
* overheating components, as described before.
* HDDs or CD/DVD drives which are not set to run in DMA mode.
* conflicts between devices, due to wrong config in the drivers.
* software eating up resources. A good example is spyware.
and I'm sure the list is incomplete.
You should check at least for the points above, if you need help with doing so, please search the forum, it's been done before, and if you don't find the info, post here again and someone will tell you how to do the tests.

Try using msconfig and disable everything that starts up with Windows and then disable all non Microsoft services and see if the issues still happens. Chances are that something is making the CPU run at 100% and/or eating up a lot of memory resources.

Re: Freeze for a few seconds on Z96J
Hey all, been awhile.
I did do msconfig, and I don't have spyware. I wasn't using CD/DVD at the time. I think it's fixed now though, and I missed AlexF's post for some reason but that might be it. I stopped using BitComet a few weeks ago and changed to Azeurus. Since then I haven't been doing a great deal of torrent stuff or computer gameplay (this issue was especially bad in a big multiplayer game where everything would just freeze) but I don't think I've seen it since the torrent program change. That might very well be it. I've bookmarked this post and I'll update it if I do see it again w/o BitComet running.
