dv5250 - why does wmp skip?

Question:
dv5250 - why does wmp skip?
brand new HP dv5250...is there something wrong with my hard drive? once in a while windows media player will "skip" for just a sec....this occurs with any mp3's or even videos playing. With videos, it will skip on the video too. the thing is, it's pretty random although fairly frequent. this is a replacement to another (same model) that I exchanged because the cd drive would open randomly. i'm pretty sure it didn't have this problem though.
i've just converted to HP from Toshiba (many many problems) and i'm hoping to not run into the same kind of thing.

my dv5000t used to do that in iTunes. Since I got a new hard drive (7200 RPM) it no longer happens. Not sure if it was the new formatting or the new hard drive that fixed it.

My dv5000t does it, I'm wondering if it's because I have the Windows Media Player 11 beta.

Try another program to see if the problem comes from media player. I have always preferred winamp for mp3 playback.

Re: dv5250 - why does wmp skip?
i just use WMP because when you minimize it, it resizes itself as a miniplayer onto the taskbar, while other programs like Winamp and Music Match don't.
It beats having to maximize to change the song and then reminimize.

Re: dv5250 - why does wmp skip?
it's a 1.83 duo core with 2gig ram. It occurs with only wmp running and nothing else in the background. I'm using wmp10 and it's brand new so pretty much fresh format. so masturB it's not 11beta that's the problem. Since it's happening to you too i'm guessing it's just an inherent problem with the HD. How frequently does it occur for you? It's seems to be completely random and when it does occur it's only for a split second. i'm not sure whether to reformat or see if it gets worse. I did a defrag with no success either.
i never had this problem with wmp with my Toshiba so it can't be the software. i'm thinking it's the HD because when it occurs i'm pretty sure I can see the HD LED go on and hiccup for the split second.
annoying nevertheless...

If it's only with WMP, then this is not HDD problem. Run WindowsUpdate and install all WMP updates. This may help

Re: dv5250 - why does wmp skip?
Try playing music in iTunes or Winamp to see if the problem persists there, as well. If it does, it is probably the hard drive.
Like i said, I had the same issue (different program) that went away with a faster hard drive.

bummer, this definitely sucks as i've already returned/exchanged one. it occurs with divx player so i haven't tried winamp, but will.
