Athlon xpm to athlon 64

Question:
Athlon xpm to athlon 64
just wondering after reading in one of the posts
that someone has a compaq r3210ca and he says
his cpu is socketed not soldered and its a xpm 2800+ s754
does that mean it might be possible to install an athlon 64 2800+
or +3000
Answer: It's very likely but not confirmed. See here for my report on CPU swapping in the nearly identical zv5000z.
The 3400+ looks like the best bang/buck at newegg.com [:D].
Answer: Hello, I am new to this forum!
I own a Compaq R3210CA too, and i find it a bit slow, it would be nice if we could upgrade the CPU! anymore info?
Compaq Presario R3210CA with AMD Athlon-M XP2800+, 256MB DDR SODIMM 333Mhz, 40GB Fujisu, 15inch XGA TFT, NVidia GeForce 4 with 32MB
Answer:
Strange. I switched from Athlon 1500+ to Athlon 3700+ and I don't find my 1500+ machine slow. It performed almost the same in real life. Maybe something else is slow in your system, HD for example.
Answer: Yeah, I'd upgrade the HD and RAM before the CPU. Go to crucial.com, tell their configurator which notebook you have, and buy a 512MB SODIMM. Consider swapping in a Hitachi 60GB 7200RPM HD (which I did) or a Seagate 100GB 5400RPM drive (haven't seen it reviewed yet though it's probably nice). The stock 4200RPM drive really drags down system performance; that, and all the extra software HP installs.
