Question:
ASUS A8Js vs W3J LCD Quality
Hey, I have one last comparison for A8Js vs W3J.
So far, the A8Js has only lost to the W3J for its lack of a modular bay (not that big of a deal) and build quality. I'm leaning towards the A8Js side, but I have one last question.
Is the screen on the A8Js the same as the one on the W3J?
The W3J has the names "Color Shine" and "Crystal Shine," while the A8Js has only "Color Shine" written on it. Does it mean the A8Js is darker, or ASUS just omitted the name.
(color shine = glossy, crystal shine = brighter)

they both have crystal shine and color shine, while the other resellers dont put "crystal shine."
so what's the deal with that?

they are not the same screen
they are the same brightness and glare coating though thats what those two names mean.
Ok now remember those phrases: crystal bright and color bright. What you need to do is just ignore them for the rest of your life and dont worry about it ever again

OH I GET IT. So it's the same brightness + glare coating on BOTH notebooks, but it depends on which manufacture made the LCD.
like. LG vs samsung . that should be the comparison, rather than color bright and crystal bright.

Hmm, but the question remains unanswered - although both screens are inherently different because they are manufactured from two different companies, how do these screens compare?
For the most part, almost everybody is complaining about the A8Js' screen. I suppose it can't be any worst for the W3J

I think the a8js screen looks incredible.
Ive never seen the cmo screen in the w3j.
It has a lower response rate.
Ive heard them described as looking extremely similar.

Stamar, how long have you been using laptops?
I find it fascinating that it really isn't the number of LCD screens you've been through which educates your eyes on the quality of LCD screens but rather the time you've spent in front of them.
I gauge almost all LCD screens towards Sony screens as they usually have the pretty decent screens. How would you compare the A8Js' screen to say, the Sony FE or SZ screens?

the asus a8js screen is much brighter and clearer than the sony fe or sony sz screen.
I have seen all three of those screens within the last 3 days by coincidence.
I held my asus a8js screen next to both of them in staples.
neither of those lcds are made by sony mind you they are made by the same company that makes the a8js screen, auo optronics.
They are 3 different sizes of the same manufacturer and they look similar, only the a8js screen is better newer and much higher resolution.
Of all the machines on display the sony fe had the best screen. It has a wider viewing angle than the a8js screen. The a8js screen is much brighter and clearer. I can see 1 individual dot on my screen and its higher resolution.
Much muddier on both sony screens. Which were still better than the hp or toshiba screens at staples.
the sony sz premium has a better screen than the a8js, made by sony with the led backlight.
Ive been using laptops since a pentium 1 90 toshiba libretto. Is that 10 years?

my last laptop was a sony pcg nvr 23. It had a great screen.
It was matte 15 inch regular aspect. This screen is much better but the sony again, had a better viewing angle.
It was a great screen in its day no complaints about it at all.
Sony makes very very few lcds now almost none. samsung makes all their monitors now.

Thanks for the information, Stamar. I apologize if you were offended by me asking you how long you have been using laptops - I asked so because quite a number of the folks who whine about the laptop LCD screens are those who've never used laptops fluently before. They like to assume that a stand-alone LCD screen should be the same built/quality you would get from a laptop's much thinner screen.
I am aware that AO makes Sony's screens. I am also aware that Quanta makes their laptops. It happens that Quanta is regarded as one of the finest ODB's on the market which I must agree, as Sony's flagship laptops are indubitably well-built, which I can personally attest to.
Anyway, it is great news (and comforting) to hear that a well-seasoned laptop user such as you commending the A8Js' screen at least on a comparative level. I take your words with more weight over the others who I must assume are amateurs in the laptop world.
