IMO, no.
Not with just 256mb of RAM
A 40gb HDD
A no DVD drive.
Rip-off.
For $550, you can get better, although it wont be a thinkpad.

oh i just updated the change at the website:
$600 now for 1 GB of memory, Core Duo 1.66Ghz, WiFi a/b/g
the harddrive is small (40g)... the cd-rom doesn't matter too much to me since i have an external dvd-burner...lol

I am a student. my previous laptop (Panasonic T2) died last month after only half a year. And I am slightly iffy about spending a large amount. I am just wondering if core duo laptop can get any cheaper cuz otherwise, there's a dell desktop for $400 w/ P4 3.2 ghz and 19' LCD

Go for it man. Why not? Hard drives are easily upgradeable after market.

hell yeah, a new r60 w/core duo for $600. I definitely think it's worth it.

oh, capslock, i called the rep directly, lenovo website does have a sale goign on for R60 with core 2 duo, i think core duo suffices my need though :-)
