Re: No options for AMD Turion 64 X2 on any laptops?
Alienware is slow to update their site and models.
The Turion X2 CPUs are ready for order on other OEMs that sell the same notebooks as Alienware.
For Example:
i've been posting this exact model from Widow PC in the "What Should I Buy" forums for the last month. :D
Heres was my most recent post:
If you wanna go up to $5000, then look towards the highest of the high-end ultimate gaming notebook:

Check out the WidowPC 919 (Clevo M590KE) at WidowPC

go to WidowPC.com and you can config a better CPU, i just recommended that particular config to someone with a $5500 budget.
Alienware seems to be lacking a lot lately since they merged with Dell and have some bad reviews about their reviews... literally.

ah i didnt see the link to widowpc, thanks!!
And yah whomever suggested that merge of allienware and dell was a clearly not thinking.... took dell long enough to start using amd but that merge was ridiculous... no wonder they are lacking as you say.
thanks for the info!

Note - this isn't a WidowPC bashing post, as I know nothing about them.
But...it's hard to see where Alienware is lacking since they've merged with Dell...they were one of the first to offer the Core 2 Duo notebooks, and they were one of the first US sites with the SLI notebook. I've had my m9700 for almost 2 months and have nothing but praise for it. I almost dismissed it because it wasn't dual core (AMD ML-44 2.4GHz Turion) - but, if you want a great gaming machine (and, like the Alienware look), then this is a great PC. And yes, the C2D models with the 7950 GTX video cards from other vendors are also great gaming PCs.
Prior to the Dell buyout, it took almost a year for the 15" notebook to be updated, now they've changed twice in the last year. And as for not updating their site regularly...it's been changing almost daily...so if they haven't moved to the AMD X2 mobile CPUs yet, it's not because they aren't updating their website.
Everyone has different needs and desires...really don't see the need to bash one brand over another...and why bring up the whole Hexus review issue - there are two sides to that story as well.

Although the merge with Dell does not seem to have hurt Alienware, it hasn't gotten them any further either. Alienware has generally been doing and building the same things they have for years. Alienwares are nice machines, but they need to "kick it up a notch."
As far as the Clevo M590KE goes, with dual Go7950GTX 512MB, you are going to want the fastest CPU you can buy, since that is going to be your bottleneck. With a $5,500 budget, a couple of hundred dollars more shouldn't make a difference.
