Is it true that you have to install the orginal windows to asus z96j. If not it comes up with a blue screen and stops

You mean the Windows from the recovery CDs? It's not required, any Windows kit will do.
But if you're a novice, it might be better to use the recovery CD (or the recovery partition for that matter, that's much faster) because you get a complete factory install with drivers & utilities.

Well, the Z96j is a barebone so I don't think they have a recovery disc, unless you buy the OS, retail or OEM.

It is true that you need to have sp2 slipstreamd on your cd otherwise you MAY encounter a bluescreen. If you see a bluescreen and your cd is pre sp2 then that is likely the cause of you getting the blue screen during the 2nd part of your installation process.

I did it without the sp2 and I had no problem. I just updated it after the installation was complete.

i found out that on mine you do need to have sp2 in order to go throught the process.
