Question:
How to get Global warranty from US order
Hi,
Im in Canada, as you all probably know, prices here suck, not to mention the lack of customizability.
My plan was, seeing as the prices and customization in the 'states are much better, i would order one through a third party and get it shipped up here.
My only critical problem would be the warranty service..and how to get my machine serviced if need be, up here in Canada.
Is it possible to buy "global" warranty service on a thinkpad, so the warranty would carry with the machine wherever i am in the world and so i can get the machine serviced in canada?
Thanks

I'm a BC resident and bought a Z61t from the Lenovo USA website last week. I called and more than one sales rep told me the warranty (and extended warranty) were valid in Canada.

I believe that some models have a US only warranty, while others have a global warranty.

No, you need to check the specific number to see if they have warranty. I'm trying to figure out the same, and if you can purchase a warranty that is IWS.

Place your order over the phone- configure it online but print it out and read it back to the rep. You can then ask if their warranty is good for canada, and if not they can usually sell you one that is.

Re: How to get Global warranty from US order
All products have an international warranty!
BUT... the product must be serviced and/or sold in that country.
There is a link for international warranty lookups on lenovo's site. you can check there.
Most models available in the US will be eligable for warranty in Canada, but I'm pretty sure some aren't.
I'm a Canadian resident, and just recently ordered a T60p to a relative in the US, while I'm on vacation I will pick it up and bring it back with me.
If you get someone to ship it from the US to Canada, you must keep customs/duty fees in mind as well as shipping charges.

Re: How to get Global warranty from US order
Id minimize the tax, either by shipping with third party insurance and 0 declared value or just by shipping to a friend i have in florida.
Anyways..thanks for the insight and advice guys....by the way..does anyone know Lenovo USA's return policy?

What's that for BS? First you tell that all of them have international warranty and 1 line down you say that you have only warranty in the countries where they sell that particular model...

That is correct... and you can check for yours anticipated model by entering the 1st 4 digits of the model# into the lenovo/ibm warranty page (found in the FAQ sticky of this forum).
In general tho, T61 does not have a global warranty. Most of the previous models do have full or limited international coverage.
You can purchase an international warranty for a T61 from lenovo
IBM Canada tends to be very slow at fixing thinkpads imported from the US by a canadian. So you better buy the on-site next-day service then, otherwise it'll sit for months in their depot.
