Question:
[HEL80] Keyboard layout
Since a month or 2 I have the Compal HEL 80 now, but my keyboard layout is just weird.
Next to my left shift key is a button with these [] but it doesn't do anything.
Same thing with the key next to my enter key with <> on it.
When I try to get a ( with shift + 8 (Which it would be according to the symbol above the 8 key) I get a * etc.
I've tried to change my country settings in Windows but can't get the right one. So am I the only one with these weird problems? Can I do anything about it?
Hope my story is a little understandable :P

Looks like a European version or something... And you have a black touchpad and gray body.. are you sure that is the HEL80 and not the EL80i (vbi version)?

Sorry forgot to mention it IS the vbi version but that shouldn't matter for the keyboard layout right?
Again.. When I press the shift + 8 at my keyboard I get the * like on the first image but I should get the ( like on my image!

That is a german keyboard... Look at the S key...

Contact your reseller, my keyboard has the UK-layout, but I'm getting the US-international keyboard next week. After 2½ months... pff. I can keep the one I have now though, so I'll have a spare one :).
Seems like a lot of European Compal's have the wrong keyboard.

You should be able to make regional setting changes in Control Panel to reflect the keyboard type.
Try Control Panel, Keyboards, and see if you can change the hardware type to German, instead of US101

At least you didn't get a Taiwanese version hahaha
Solution 1) Get a new keyboard for US English from your reseller
Solution 2) Change the keyboard settings in Windows to German, so at least "what you see [on the keyboard] is what you get [on the screen]". But you may have to relearn a few key positions and behaviours.
Solution 3) Keep the settings for US, and (most) of the keystrokes will remain at usual positions for a US keyboard, but they may not be what the symbol on the key shows
