just had a chat with a tech online trying to get media direct 3.0 to install on vista and their response was
We will request you not to install vista or any product of vista on the laptop as it has not been launched and it may harm your laptop.":eek:
well this doesn't seem right

It won't 'harm' your laptop permanently, however vista is still pre-release and they don't have any obligation to support beta software.

Yea it won't harm your laptop. I know cuz I've installed Vista. The main problem is that the support and software compatibilities are not fully integrated with each other. I heard the final version would be better tho.

I do have my Ultimate Key and my Business key too. But, we're business customers, so that helps.
But, Vista won't harm your Laptop. It may kill mediadirect funtionality -- in which case you're at the mercy of dell figuring it out. You have until Jan 30th until Dell will be obligated to have done anything.

I finally got a semi answer after 5 hours of shuffling about the problem is that media direct does not recognize the kernal and will have to be re written at lrast that is what the tech support guys in Austin tx. told me about 1 hour ago so its possible a fix should be comming
sometime I got vista on my msdn supscription and myst say that so far business and home premium seem like the all around best so far ultimate uses about 20%more memory

Ultimate uses a bit more, but 20% seems high to me.
But .. our VL/SPLA keys are for business, so that's what we'll end up using anyway.

honestly business imho runs better than ultimate and home premium would be great for home ultimate just has too much candy added for me
