Blue screen

Question:
Blue screen
Hey , I just got a 6400 about 3 or 4 weeks and i am now starting to have one problem that keeps happening and I'm not sure if its the hard drive or windows creating the frustration.
It starts when the laptop begins to stutter a bit, which tends to progress worse as time goes on ... and it is generally triggered when i have music playing or try to start a movie .... it will stutter so much that the laptop freezes completely and shortly after a blue screen pops up saying a problem has been detected.... etc kernel data in page error
I am hoping this is an easy fix and not a virus !!!
Any suggestions would help ! Thanks
p.s Is it possible that XP home SP 2 is creating the problem ?

Re: Blue screen
I doubt SP 2 is causing the problem. When it happens again, read the top half of it. It should mention something about a driver or something that is causing the problem.
We've had some users complain about the stuttering problem. Normally it is caused because your laptop is set to PIO instead of DMA mode. Here is a site that gives directions on how to check to see which mode you are in:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...e/IDE-DMA.mspx
DMA mode runs smoother and doesn't cause the stuttering.
