Inspiron 6400 Questions . . .
Dell Inspiron 6400
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM
100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™

I've never owned a laptop before.
I was considering to buy this laptop and I have a few questions.
Opinions or suggestions on computer?
The starting weight is 6.18 lbs, how heavy would all these upgrades add?
The only time I'm going to move it is for my future classes, is this too big?
Is $1500 a good price for this or is there something better?

Re: Inspiron 6400 Questions . . .
1.) The only thing which will really change the weight is the battery size.
2.) It's personal preference--I had a 6400 for a while and switched to a 14.1" T60 for greater portabilty (college student)
3.) Maybe in Canada, I'm not sure.

yeah, vespoli is correct. Your laptop is heavy enough that not much will effect it and on my laptop, i don't even notice the difference between the batteries.
As for the price, you can lower that a bit. Make sure to use the coupons that are available. Also, get your RAM from somewhere else. If you live in the US, newegg.com has ram at very reasonable prices and a lot cheaper than dell.

Where did you getting $1500 for your specs? For Dell Canada, it's never a good price, but there are no other place to go.:(
I don't think right now is a good time to buy, cus back in Oct 6 there were deals of 6400 with t7200, x1400, 120G hard drive, 1GB Ram for like $1199.
For the past 2 months the prices has gone up the roof. I think Dell has some inventory problems.
Though, the 2 gig upgrade seems okey.

I'm typing with the same system with similar specs on my laptop right now. I carry it around with my every where I go. Personally, I think it's a good size. Mine weights a little less than 6.5 pounds and I don't find it a hassle at all. It's a bit too heavy to be trying to hold it with one hand on a corner (you'll hear the plastic creak).
It's comfortable on my lap, doesn't get too hot with jeans on. Can't notice the weight.

I was about to buy same laptop earlier today but gave up as it was costing me around $1540 before tax and with coupon. My target price was around $1400 or less.
my spec T7200, ati x1400, 2gig ram, 120 gig HD, draft n, bluetooth 2.0, backpack, xp-home, standard warranty.
Similar laptops:
hp dv6000 series ..it has mic, webcam n more ports, good built, but processor, graphics card, screen resolution, no n-draft are weak compared to dell 6400
Acer aspire 5112...Good graphics card, good price, more ports, builtin webcam everything else looks weak compared to dell6400. Looks are dull.
There is no complete medium range laptop in market.

Yes, I second that... Also not only you can get a better deal but also you will be able to purchase your laptop with Windows Vista. And you will be sure which version of Vista. No more guess work! Is Vista premium will or won't work with my laptop... etc.
Good luck with your purchase... or try NOW to win a DELL Inspiron 6400...
You can win one everyday until December 2006! Check the link below
Good luck again! :) and Happy Holidays to you! and all of you on this forum!

Maybe ongoing SEC probe into dell's accounting practices has to do something with the current dell laptop's pricing and deals.
