Alternatives to G1

Question:
Alternatives to G1
Hi,
I'm one of those who like performance (and low price), and when I saw the G1's spec I was like wow that my future laptop !
BUT, maybe I'm a little too picky about it but I'm not fan of the design. The small light on the sides, the screw all around the screen, the green keyboard...
It's clearly a laptop for gamers, no doubt, and for the price the T7200/160Gb/2Gb/Go7700 it's amazing.
I'm a gamer, but a small gamer who likes performance.
But I also want to work with my new laptop, and imagine the G1 in a boardroom :o
So I'm looking for something equivalent, less flashy, I looked at the V1jp but cannot afford +200$
I saw the F3jp on newegg, it looks great, maybe I ll add 1more Gb of ram, but maybe there are some other great Asus laptop out there which can fit ?? Do you have any ideas ??
Thx ! ;)

Re: Alternatives to G1
There's a few alternatives to the G1, besically all the other gaming laptos:
15.4" Alienware somethingoranother, it's more expensive and i wouldnt recomend it to anyone i didnt hate
and voodoo's got a 15.4 incher also, it's got 7600 and core 2 duo...voodoo is cool and all, but it's WAY expensive (like 3000 freaking bucks)
ROCK has a laptop that's also got a 7600, but i think it's the same one voodoo is using, it's cheaper, but still in the 2000's
thoes are the only laptops i no of that compete with the g1

Re: Alternatives to G1
VooDoo's 15.4" system is the Compal HEL80 rebranded.
If you want to see the product page for that one, look here:

The Asus Z96J is another nice alternative, as well as the HP nc8430.

Re: Alternatives to G1
the only other 15" gaming asus notebooks would be the built on models, i.e. s96j/z96j. at least in the states...

Sorry guys and gals, but if Kou isn't a fan of the G1 gaming design..... Alienware, VooDoo, and the like are obviously out.
The F3jp is a nice little unit about the same quality as the G1 but not as flashy..... If you can't afford the V1, as said about there are custom models you can turn to..... that's about it though.

I also thought of Z96/S96j like you ejl but they seem less powerful than the F3jp.
One last question, are there any reseller selling the f3jp with 2Gb ram ? Milestone and proportable you don't seem to sell this laptop ??

And I'm Kuo not kou :p

Re: Alternatives to G1
I would definitely conside the a8js. I also considered this one, and that was a tough choice, 14.1" and 15.4". But I'll be coding on this notebook, and from what I read 15.4" is the minimum for developers
thx for the post !

Re: Alternatives to G1
I would get the g1 anyway and reduce the toy additions.
the model it is based on is actually similar to the f3j, its actually older. The additions that make it look different are these lights on the side and carbon look finish
It could quite easily be modified to become an asus a6 if you follow.
It is in dollar value a much better deal than the f3jp
it has a better quality screen with a higher resolution you would appreciate at work.
