Help. Need to find a hard drive socket/adapter.

Question:
Help. Need to find a hard drive socket/adapter.
I have an Inspiron 8000. I lost the black plastic piece that attaches to the hard drive and allows you to plug it into the motherboard. Unfortunately, I do not know the actual name of this piece and am unable to find a replacement part. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The black connector, probably an IDE connector, is normall attached to the motherboard. The pins fit into this part, and there is normally no removeable connector, except that whihc is attached to the hard disk itself. Are you sure that you have misplaced the connector?

Yes, it is an IDE connector that plugs onto the hard drive and allows you to slide the drive assembly into the motherboard to establish a connection. I am certain that I lost the piece as I was playing with it when I was at Frys purchasing a replacement hard drive. Thus far, I've only found adapters that allow you to hook up an IDE notebook drive to your desktop.

After some googling, I answered my own question. Dell calls it an "interposer board." http://www.impactcomputers.com/8267r.html

You may be able to find a connector on ebay. I have done a little searching and found the flowwing item, although I don't know if the caddy will be of any use to yourself.
