Question:
AMD Turion CPU speed adjustment - when power cable is connected
Hi,
I recently got a compaq presario v6133 with the AMD TL-50 x2 processor. I notoice that when i run it on battery and in the Max Battery profile the laptop runs quiet and cool at 800 Mhz per core.
But, when i connect the power cord, the fan kicks in and the laptop starts getting warm around the palm rests and a bit hot on the left hand side corner.
Does anyone how to keep the processor running at 800Mhz even when the power line is connected, there are no power management software provided with the laptop so I have had to rely on windows power management.
Thanks

The processor should alter the cpu speed dynamically even when you are on A/C power. If the laptop seems to be getting hot on the front left(palm rest) of the laptop then it is most likely the HDD since that is where it is located.
If you want to use an alternative power management then try RM Clock. It allows you to set your own power management steppings and manage it better. It is bit hard to understand if you are a first time user, but as long as you are careful and set the correct voltages, it is a good power management utility.

You need RM Clock to set you free.
In my view, even Battery powered need a bit of performance balanced. I set my battery scheme to 800~1.2GHz. The A/C power is full clock scaled On Demand.

Thanks for the response guys. I shall try out RMClock and post my responses.
Seeing, you guys have similar laptops based off AMD processors. Would you mind sharing the battery life you get. I have a standard battery and with medium setting, I get a little over 2 hours.
Thanks

I usually get a little bit under 3 hours(~2h:45m) on a single charge for regular use. The screen brightness is set to the lowest & just surfing the web, word processing etc.

I am guessing your model possibly has a 14.1 inch screen and hence gives a more time with the battery
I ran RMClock and found it quite useful. But I also found that the CPU runs between 49 - 58 and at 58 the fan kicks in and brings it back and its a cycle. Is this normal. I expected the CPU to run under 45-50 C as I always run it at 800Mhz drawing 0.8V.
Thank you once again
