Considering dv8000t as my first lappy, need more opinions

Question:
Considering dv8000t as my first lappy, need more opinions
Hello, I have the dv8000t in my eyes as a candidate for my first ever laptop for school/home. This is a great site with all the reviews but I looked up this particular model (maybe its still new?) and didn't see many reviews of it to get an idea of what alot of ppl think about it, so if you happen to have this model what do you think of it?

It got out week ago so there is not review for it yet.
It's good, But for School, You might want to get 15.4 Inch computer as 17" will be hugh, Unless you don't mind carrying 9 Pounds everyday. Also it will have battery life of maximum 3 Hours or average of 2 hours depending what you use it for.
If you have good budget than go for DV5000T which is 15.4 Inch up to 7 Hours of battery life, light weight. Compaq V5000T is also good option but it doesn't have graphics upgrade option, which you might need if you are planning to play lot of games.

This computer would be used for basicly everything I do on my desktop movies, games, music, etc (even though i have a tv already a tv tuner sounds cool) as well as the simple chatting, and school related things such as office and all of my programming apps. :) I want it to last and be just really good for no matter what I do. I was going to probably buy extra batteries too. The 8000 seems to offer more HD space then the other one does too

http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigur...&model=EE944AV Sorry, we don't have costco here, only "Sam's Club" as far as those types of stores go. But that looks identical to the one on HP's website. Thanks for that link though anyway :)

Chrish-
i'm looking to make the same decision. from HP's site, and various reviews, looks like the standard battery for both the 8000 and the 5000 lasts for about 3 hrs.
are you talking about 7 hrs for the honking big extended battery?
also you can configure them to have pretty much the same price just that the 8000 has the Ultra screen and much more HDD space.
thoughts?

extended battery lasts up to 7 to 10 hours. Standard will about 4 Hours in DV5000T and For DV8000T maximum of 3 Hours.
I haven't seen ultrabight screens but Brightview Screens are perfect and better than other brands so far I have seen.

for a 17" DTR with the core duo/945PM chipset (napa motherboard) - there aren't that many rigs out there yet. the HP dv8000t, HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9420, Fujitsu Lifebook N6410 (BEST screen on the market), Dell Inspiron E1705, etc. ... the better brands (ODMs) like Sager (Clevo) and Asus are coming-out with their variants shortly (another month or so). All others are in-process as well.
if you can wait --- wait. more choices are sure to pop-up (and more reviews). and more competition will make for a better buyer's market. unfortunately, I couldn't wait :( . if i could --- it would probably be a Sager or Asus.
my next machine will undoubtedly be one of those  ...
good luck!

not bad (i ordered one!) ... it's just like comparing a chevy to an audi in terms of build quality, options and style --- price too! :D HP as compared to Sager or Asus that is...
however, you CAN trick out a chevy pretty well with the right parts...!
HP seems to have steadily improved the last few years... and many discerning people (myself included) are taking note.
