Well, there's always the z81sp and its 6800, but it's a really massive machine. But yeah, that's about as good as you'll get with Nvidia and Asus.
I'd steer away from the z71v, personally. Its 6600 is underclocked to 250MHz, and it still has a few heat issues here and there. There are a lot of other brands with full-speed 6600s or 7400s, just not Asus, unfortunately.

Re: help on asus nvidia laptops!
im finding the z71v to be really feature filled.
the 6600 even underclocked will be fine in linux.
not going to be gaming much but would like to have the ability to crank up something at a lan.
anyone else have issues with the z71v?

it was pretty popular, infact very popular when it came out.. everyone called it the "next CL56".. that was until Asus revealed the Z70v then Z70va.

Right... the Asus Z71v was VERY popular a few months back... but once Asus released the Z70Va, people started switching over to that (since it looks a little better and has bluetooth).
The Z71v still packs a lot of punch for the pricetag though.

Re: help on asus nvidia laptops!
The Z71v had a fairly widespread battery problem a few months after it came out. Batteries would no longer charge to max and eventually became useless. The problem was in the first batch of batteries sent out. Batteries manufactured in 2006 should no longer have this problem, but its up to the reseller to make sure you have a good battery. Theres a huge thread floating around somewhere.

The Z71v still packs a lot of punch for the pricetag though. i agree that the Z70V looks a lot better than the Z71 series with those nice sharp edges and that carbon fibre look. However Im willing to forgo all that since the Z71V comes wiht an Nvidia Video Card.
I would get teh Z70V if it was offered with geforce go6600, however i havent seen it anywehere..

-dj any reason why you prefer Nvidia?
other Asus models with Nvidia are the A6vc, V6J, A8 (with 7600 option), w7j (7400?), but not too sure if any fo the newer models will come with it. A6 and V6J are the only ones you can get now with it (in the US).
but other wise, as far as available whitebooks with the Go6600.. you're limited to the Asus Z71v, Uniwill 259EN3, Quanta KN1 PM, Quanta MW1, and MSI 1032.
