ABS

Question:
ABS
What is the reputation of ABS? I just stumbled across this manufacturer while looking to purchase a notebook and can find very few product reviews...
Thanks in advance!
Answer: I have not read it yet but it was reviewed as a Best Buy in the December 2003 edition of Laptop. Has anyone read the review yet - I agree - this machine seems like a terrificly spec'd thin and light.
Answer: Memoryspiral,
I've purchased two desktops from ABS over the years and have been quite satisfied. Can't speak to customer service really as both machines ran flawlessly. I can say that when specing out the systems I found their salespeople to be knowledgable and very helpful. I'd certainly buy from them again.
Hope that helps.

Answer: From what I can tell, ABS has a good reputation, but there's little press/reviews available on their product line, especially the notebooks. The only current one I could find, was the excerpt they have on their site from a notebook magazine.

What would be good to know is where their components come from. If you look at Sager, Alienware and Voodoo, they are all essentially the same computer from a Taiwanese company (I'm 90% sure it's Taiwan). So, if you can find people like rglazier that like the ABS line, then all should be well...I'm just hesitant becasue I can't readily find the information I would want before spending a lot of money.

Looks like the manufacturer might be a company called Clevo. Ran across this article while browsing powernotebooks.com:

Answer: The Zforce 2 from ABS is an AOpen 1557GL, I believe the zensation line however is an asus barebone, although I'm not totally sure. I'm sure more information could be found over at talknotebooks.com . Hope this helps!
