Help choose Dual-Core LENOVO T60 vs. HP dv1000t

Question:
Help choose Dual-Core LENOVO T60 vs. HP dv1000t
Help choose Dual-Core LENOVO T60 vs. HP dv1000t
I own a dual-core desktop computer with 2 gigs of ram. It's an incredible machine and I want to invest in a laptop that will give me the same performance.
Been doing a lot of research on a QUALITY notebook. I first went to LENOVO and looked at their T60. It's built for someone like me who
travels often and needs something portable when on business or vacation.
I understand that the LENOVO is probably the best you can buy, but upon further research, I found something that gives me a little more bang for the buck....
The HP DV1000T is a dual-core processor machine that offers more for the money. Here is how they compare...
LENOVO: T2400 processor (max)
HP: T2500 processor (max)
LENOVO: 1.5 gigs ram (max)
HP: 2 gigs ram (max)
LENOVO: Non-ultra-brite screen
HP: Ultrabright screen (which I prefer)
LENOVO: 60 gig SATA 5000rpm hard drive (max)
HP: 100 gig SATA 5000rpm hard drive (max)
LENOVO: (I think) 6-cell battery
HP: 12-cell battery plus great deal on a spare at time of purchase
The price? The HP loaded comes out about $100 less than the lesser loaded LENOVO.
I'm not a gamer. I use my portable to run a lot of high-intensity programs, including dozens that run at once. I want something somewhat durable for home and travel purposes.
While LENOVO is rated the highest, I'd take a chance on the HP if I knew it was a quality notebook. I don't have much experience
with HP.
Look forward to your advice. Thank You!

Actually, you can get the Lenovo all the way up to a T2600 and a 100 gig 7200 rpm drive. It comes with a 6 cell or a 9 cell battery depending on the exact one you get. I really perfer the T60 due to the security features and the size. Coming in at 5.3 lbs with the 14.1inch screen and only 1.2" thin, I like it a lot. Just look on cdw to get the models with the higher cpus and stuff ad just call them in to lenovo and they should be able to put it on order.:)

Have you looked at the W3J thats comeing out next month?

Uprising,
I could have sworn I went to the LENOVO site and
upon configuring, was very limited by my choices of
CPU, memory and so forth.
You mean to tell me that I have better configuration
options going to CDW? How and why would that be?
Could you provide me with a specific link?
I will certainly check out the T60 as that was my
first in choice (prior to the HP model) anyhow.
Thank You!!!!
PS EDIT: Aaah, I see there are two T60 models
listed on the LENOVO site. Their 2500 processor model (that looks as high as it goes) plus 2 GB ram goes for about $2600. Ouch! The HP would cost me about $400 less.
Is the LENOVO model really worth paying that
kind of extra dough?

actually, I called up ATI today, and the FireGL card really wont perform as far as gaming goes. THey said it would, but if there was a glitch or whatnot, they would not fix it as it was meant for CAD. I really like the thinkpad models, but unfortunately, I will have to side with everyone else here and look elsewhere for a laptop unless I am willing to step down to the 128mb graphics :(

Uprising...
I am confused.
Are you recommending I go with Lenovo or HP?
Please see my prior post 2 above ^^^^
I'm not happy with the 128 graphics card in
the Lenovo, but not sure how it compares to
the HP Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950.

sorry i am so confusing. The IBM will always perform better than the hp integrated graphics. End of story. But if you are wanting something even better than 128mb, the FireGL is not the way to go if gaming is your direction. The ASUS w3j that is coming out in a week is a fantastic choice i you are wanting a 256 mb card (X1600) and is cheaper than the T60 (runs for 1800). If you have any more questions, just post'em and I'll try my best to answer them.

I'm not into gaming.
The ASUS w3j does intrigue me. What is so great about it?

The W3j wouldnt really be for you if you did any of the gaming stuff. But it does come with bluetooth which is nice for business. But, it only comes with a 1.8GHZ Processor, while you can get a 2.0 ghz with the other ones you are looking at. Other people wold be more knowledgeable about the W3J, and I wam pretty sure there are a few threads on it in the forums somewhere.

Re: Help choose Dual-Core LENOVO T60 vs. HP dv1000t
w3j is the complete package. w3j has the best components that can be put into a 14 inch notebook (except the processor, but actually 1.83 and 2.0 don't differ much in performance). asus is second only to ibm in terms of quality, especially the quality of the keyboard, which is arguably the most important part of a laptop. w3j is also one of the more stylish notebooks out there. Yes, looks do matter. Unlike desktops, which are usually put in obscure places, notebooks are "public figures". It's like a piece of clothes u wear that partially represents you in a way. One of the best features of w3j and several other asus notebooks is its modular bay, which means that u can literally pull out the optical drive and insert a battery into it if you want more battery life; you can put in the plastic if u want less weight. It just gives u tremendous flexibility. One of the things u should be aware of, however, is the heat problem. Due to its high-end video card, the notebook may produce a lot of heat, but then i really believe asus has enough engineering talent to pull this off.
