Question:
Cannot resume from standby
I have a brand new Inspiron 6000 from dell that I got a week ago.
If I put the computer into standby and wake it up about 5 minutes later by pressing the power button, it wakes up fine.
However, if I put the computer into standby for longer periods like 30 minutes or more, the computer does not resume from standby. The monitor stops working, the keyboard stops responding (I press the caps lock and num lock keys but the status lights do not change.), and the mouse does nothing.
I first thought it was a video driver problem causing the monitor to not turn back on but when i checked Dell's site, I have their latest drivers.
Now I'm thinking that it has something to do with the power management. Perhaps the hard drive or something else is set to turn off at 30 minutes but is missing a driver to turn back on?
I find this to be weird as this is a brand new laptop which should have very recent drivers...

Re: Cannot resume from standby
Most of the time, it has been from my experience that this is a problem related to XP.
Up until, I did this last reformat everything worked on my computer. Now, my laptop has a hard time coming back from standby or anytime the LCD turns off.
I still haven't found an answer, but you might change your power settings around. Unless you absolutely need to go into standby, you could just use your power button to put your laptop in hibernation mode.

Put me down as another i6000 P-M1.86(1 week old as well) user having the same issue. When machine is left on for a while and goes on standby(LCD off),pressing power button used to bring it back to life but no more. Have to resort to powering down/up the unit to get it backup and running again.
I have a year old i6000 C-M 1.3 that does not have the problem. Only difference in OS is that the newer one is XP MCE.

Re: Cannot resume from standby
There have been some suggestions to flash the bios to the latest release. I would also make sure that your windows are completely updated.
As a last resort before calling dell, try reformatting your HDD if you haven't already.

Re: Cannot resume from standby
Seems that allowing the automatic window updates thus getting the latest XP patch(s) fixed my issue. The auto update feature was the first thing that I disabled right out of the box.

Same here... Inspiron 6000D - Standy doesn't work.
I had a Inspiron 8600 prior to this laptop and it worked great... :(

I had the same problem. But just close the screen and reopen it again. Thats what fixed it for me.

Re: Cannot resume from standby
My brand new e1505 dose this as well. If I close it and it sits for a while it will not come back on when I open it. Then only way I can seem to get it back is to hold down the power button.

Re: Cannot resume from standby
Called Dell... and I think this might of fixed it.
Goto your Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager).
Find your Network Adapter and select properties
Goto the Power Management Tab and uncheck all checkmarks
Now my computer seems to come in and out of stand by more reliably.
Give that a try.
