Question:
Are these screen problems normal? E1705 --
I notice a blackish/dark gray smear in the bottom right hand corner of my laptop all the time when I use it...
Also, two very small pixels are bad in my display... is this the luck of the draw or should I get a replacement before my 1 year warranty is up?
(I have a T2400 ATI 256, 7200 80GB, TrueLife E1705)
Otherwise, the laptop has been running great...

Well you have 21 days to return it for satisifaction. The dead pixel thing is in the warrnaty and think it has to have a certain number.
The smear shouldn't be there, I would call Dell and tell them you want it replaced.

I second what USAF said - I'd try and get a replacement - the gray smudge shouldn't be there.

Officially Dell says there needs to be 7 dead pixels to qualify for a return/exchange, however that's a lot and depending on the placement of the pixels you can convince a representative to do an exchange, but as USAF says, that's within 3-weeks and not within a year.

Now in regards to that "smudge", I have no clue, that isn't right though.

not sure what a smudge is, but dell replaced my notebook because of 1 dead pixel and 1 stuck pixel (that later came unstuck). i was on the phone with dell, at the most, for 10 minutes, including hold time. explained the pixels, rep set me up with an exchange and had it in the works before we got off the phone. got a new notebook with a perfect lcd about a week later.

Wow.... Got to like that. We all should be so fortunate. What was the Dell rep's number again....

I would call back again and speak to another rep... sometimes it depends on who you talk to....
