Another Unhappy Alienware Owner

Question:
Another Unhappy Alienware Owner
Well today is the day that did it for me.
Back in December of 2004 I was extremely excited to purchase a Area-51 m7700 notebook because it was a beast and I had been saving for a while so I pulled the trigger.
Flash forward 17 months and now its dead due to the fact that my videocard is no longer made and they have none in stock. I only got the 1 year warranty(BIG BIG Mistake I wont make again) and due to using the notebook and playing games which is the main reason you get an Alienware, the heat of the notebook toasted my 6800 Go.
Yesterday I ran all the tests I was instructed to do and the problem happened everytime and the tech confirmed it was a bad videocard.
So when I called support today I was more than willing to purchase the videocard because I knew it wasnt under warranty but what I wasnt ready for was being told that we no longer have the videocard and can no longer get it. Here are my options 1) Send it in have them replace the motherboard, powersupply and videocard. This option will run me around $2,000 or option #2) is use my 7700m for a paperweight.
I am not asking for a new system for free, a new video card for free or anything like that I just want a reasonable solution to my problem. I dont think that paying 2 grand is resonable for a notebook that is only 16 months old.
So if you do get a new system from them be sure to get the extended warranty so you are not in a sitution like me.

Why don't they have the 6800 of they are still making that model, it makes no sense? Rather stupid

The problem is they still have the 6800 go but not the exact model I need. That is where the $2000 comes in. My video card is model 2.01 and they are on 2.08 and the 2.01 is no longer made and its what I need. If I pay them the $2000 they will be more than happy to equipt my 7700 with the upgraded parts.
Needless to say the wife is pissed I now have a $3000 paper weight.

Do you mind giving your Video Card specifications etc.. like
1. ....X-AGP?
2. Exact Model #
3. Any other specifications.
so that i can look it up if there indeed is any in-compatibility issues.
I really don't understand how a different version number GPU is in-compatible with a mother board as long as its the same model (6800 Go). Almost all manufacturers revice their hardware version number, but thats just some minor hardware + firmware upgrade... NOBODY changes the whole architecture so that it gets in-compatible with your motherboard. Also.. almost all new GPUs are backward compatible and they follow a standard
(its not AWs "my fuc*** wish" world)... i.e. they will work on slightly older computers with less than optimal performance.
I seriously doubt what those f***ups at AW told you and suggest that you do some serious research on this one.
If it is indeed true that the new GPU version is incompatible with your motherboard (which is highly unlikely), you may still get to purchase the old one from somewhere.. Ebay perhaps. But I insist you validate your situation with someone more reliable, like calling nVidea directly.
IN ANY CASE.. I RECOMMEND NOT TO PAY THOSE SCUM BAGS AND MORE OF YOUR DOUGH.
AW SUCKS... ITS THE WORST COMPANY EVER.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your problems.
Your AW is in fact a Clevo D900something. These are also being sold by companies such as Sager, Kenitec and a few gazillion other. You may want to give those guys a call, they might be able to help you out.
Also: I think it's perfect as a paperweight. That brick weighs about 5 metric tons :D

Update on my Problem.
After Calling and talking to Sager(thats right Sager) they will help me out but it will cost me around $800 to fix my Alienware notebook. I am weighing my options but at this point I think my Alienware is going to hit Ebay. With Dell trying to move all the XPS single core machines out I think spending $1500 on a new XPS that is faster and several pounds lighter is a better deal than spending the $800 to Sager.
