Asus M6ne / 15.1" SXGA / Worst problem ever!

Question:
Asus M6ne / 15.1" SXGA / Worst problem ever!
I finally bought my Asus M6ne laptop and I have the worst problem immaginable. The screen will not turn on. I have installed all of my components and it just won't boot up. Here are the specs and what I've tried.
Centrino 1.7 GHz Dothan
Crucial 512mb of DDR400
Hitachi 40GB Hard Drive
Intel Wireles mini-pci card
I've tried the RAM in both slots. Yes I know the one under the keyboard is the main one. I've also charged the battery to full. The only thing I don't have is a cd-rw/dvd drive because I ordered the wrong one, but this should not stall the laptop from booting or the monitor coming on. I've also tried an external monitor with no success. Anybodys help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: What happens when you try to turn the system on? Error messages? Beeps?
Also, the particular model of RAM you have, was it listed as compatible for the M6N series? Because technically PC3200 RAM isn't supported...
Answer: No errors. No screen. CPU fan won't even run.
Answer: I brought the laptop into my local computer shop to see what they can do. I feel I may have fried the cpu. The plastic between the heatsink and the cpu was still attached when I turned the monitor on, but when I checked the cpu, the plastic wasnt melted at all so it should be fine.
A little backstory:
1. I bought the chasis from Axiontech.com (retail)
2. I bought my CPU (retail), HD (OEM), and Wireless (OEM) from another online shop
3. I bought my RAM from Crucial
CPU has a 3 year warranty and the RAM has a Lifetime warranty.
I called axiontech this morning and they connected me with ASUS tech support. ASUS told me the CPU was too new for the computer. I laughed since nobody else in this forum has had that problem. Hell, I have the newer model. I said, OK, bit me lip and brought it to my inept computer shop... only because they can test another processor. It's hard saying goodbye to your baby, especially when your A+ Certified and have always built and taken care of your own stuff.
I leave for college on Sunday the computer shop said they should get to it by Saturday. I will still have to wait for a new $300 CPU, if that is the problem. If not, I'm gonna owe the ComputerStore atleast $50... *sigh* ...tear
Answer: This kind of sounds like the CPU may not be connected properly or it may be dead. I don't remember notebooks beeping when the CPU was not installed or defective back when I repaired notebooks, but that was a few years ago. If the CPU is in a ZIF socket, there might be a small adjustment "screw". You're supposed to rotate this until the arrow is pointing away from the CPU, that mean's it's tightened. Don't turn a full 360 degrees, just 180 will do fine.
Didn't this unit come with a CPU before you added the Dothan? If it did, does that CPU work? Try the system without any ram, that should cause a beep error. Try removing as much hardware from the system before booting, HDD, FDD, CD, Mini PCI card & Ram. See if this works.
If this system has never worked, even before your upgrades, then it's possible the system is DOA and you need a replacement.

Answer: I talked with ASUS tech support and he seems to think it is the bios. The guy told me to upgrade to the latest bios then the Dothan processor will work. Of course I need an older processor to accomplish this. Hell, I've never seen the screen go to post yet!
My assumption is that guy is wrong. This laptop is brand new and should work with Dothan CPU's. It's the one with Radeon 9700 graphics. This sucks.
I personally think the processor is fried, but stranger things have happened. If anyone has other idea's, please let me know.
Answer: I don't know what the problem is, but you are correct about ASUS being wrong with the cpu being too "new". My M6N came with a 1.5GHz Dothan and the bios installed on it was dated March 2004.
Answer: Rotten luck!
With no error beeps or any indication of post'ing, it does sound like CPU to me... that or some kind of power problem. Fingers crossed that I don't have any such problems - my specs are exactly the same as yours, only I'm getting the Kingston DDR333 512 module.
Answer: i think it could be the ram... as it wants 333 type
Answer: It was the RAM, it shall be known from this day forth that DDR400 from crucial atleast... does not work with ASUS M6Ne laptops. So stick with DDR333 and you won't go through hell like me. I will let you guys know in 24hrs whether the RAM i ordered works or not. [:D]
