Question:
It.seems the USB ports arent enabled for 2.0
How is this possible? Ive been trying to install a tv card but it keeps saying the ports Im plugging it into arent high speed. I called Sony and they say that the ports are always enabled and set to 2.0 by default. I go into the BIOS and see no setting to see if it is even for 2.0. I know this laptop has 2.0, its my brothers and its a FS860W/

Check Bios settings for 'UHCI' and 'EHCI'.

Re: It.seems the USB ports arent enabled for 2.0
Whats EHCI and UHCI Ice? I went in the bios already and couldnt find anything about USB - I hit F2 at the Vaio startup, am I doing it right?
Anyways, I just called ATI once again and they said the best thing to do is first try it on another computer. But Im unable to do that since I only have one and eh...that sucks. That way I can find out if its the card that is perhaps defective or my computer.
He also mentioned it could be either my USB ports or the video card. But I doubt its the video card, and I told him that its the tv tuner that processes the video...and then the moron went on to lecture me for 5mins about how it could be the video card blah blah blah.... What a joke tech support they have, blame everything on the customer.
So now I have to call Sony back and ask them how to enable 2.0, and the only way I can think of is that the setting would be in the BIOS. But guess what, there is no freaking option for this in the BIOS.
I sure hope my USB ports arent faulty.

Universal Host Controller Interface and
Enhanced Host Controller Interface or leagcy USB 1.1 and the 2.0 controllers. You could have EHCI disabled in bios. It should be there somewhere. Have you checked things like advanced chipset features etc? It's not exactlu as obvious as a big 'USB settings here' tab ;) You may have to dig a bit. Don't know the layout of Sony biosses, so I can't help you much there ;à

Re: It.seems the USB ports arent enabled for 2.0
I presume you're running WinXP, right? If so, the problem may lie with damaged/corrupted USB drivers rather than a misconfigured BIOS. Try reinstalling the drivers and see if this helps.
N.B. I spend a lot of time over at misticriver.net and see this problem come up with monotonous regularity. 90%+ of the time it's due to WinXP munging it's USB drivers.
