Asus Warranty

Question:
Asus Warranty
I'm thinking of buying a used W3V and it's still has about 6 months left in its warranty. I want to buy 2 additional years of warranty. Would I be able to do that?
Also, is there anyway I can protect myself when I buy a laptop over the net? I dont want to get scam.

Re: Asus Warranty
Hmm, how old a model is the W3V? I'm not too sure on this, since I've only been in the market for a lappy myself for around a month now... but if the W3V is an ensemble model it's covered by a two year international warranty... Is the W3V 18 months old now?
As to protecting yourself from being scammed, perhaps an escrow service is what you need. Basically, they act as an intermediary between you and the vendor, and wont transfer the funds until you've received and approved of the goods. Both you and the vendor have to agree on this beforehand, and the company charges a percentage of the transaction price. More info at www.escrow.com

Re: Asus Warranty
It's been purchased back in Dec 05. If I buy it, I got about 6 months left out of its 1 year warranty.

Re: Asus Warranty
Just confirming, are you sure it's only a 12 month warranty? I've just been looking around the Asus website, and the W3V is supposed to be an "ensemble" (i.e. a preconfigured) model. All ensemble models are covered by a two year international warranty... unless the vendor opened the machine to change it's configuration.

I'm about to buy an ensemble but the description says 1 year (12 months)

1h. What about the warranty?
The warranty for Built On units are different for most resellers but the constant is that 1 year of warranty on labour and parts are included on the base price. There is more but of course, costs more. For barebone units, the warranty for the barebone is from ASUS, the HD, RAM, etc. is from the manufacturers of the parts and your reseller acts as the middle person who RMA's, and helps you out instead of doing it yourself - which is a chore for some places!
The warranty for ENSEMBLE units is an 1 year International warranty on parts and labour. There is an option to add 2 more years of North American warranty for a fee, and is valid in N.A. only, with the first year being global. Check out ASUS support site for more info and locations of their service depot, at http://support.asus.com

Re: Asus Warranty
Warranty for the ensembles is 24 months worldwide except for the states where it is only 12 months Thanks for clearing that up, Seb. Perhaps Cori can update the FAQ to indicate this more clearly... not all NBR folk are from the US and the FAQ as it stands contradicts itself.
